hello all, i here if you mix break fluid that is bad, im going to put apes on soon and will need new break cables is there a way to check what kind i have? also going to do my first oil change on my new (used) streetbob i bought beginning of summer should i stick with the same oil thats in it? or synthetic and how do i know whats in it, i e-mail the seller to, thanks for the help !
Use all new fluid in the brakes buy a litre you could use it all bleeding them as for the oil loads of threads on this site re oil your choice realy just use all new oil in all the holes and replace the filter
check the top of the master cylinder
dot 4 or dot 5
You shouldnt mix the two...
I have dot 5 in my 05 which is silicone based
my '12 has dot 4 which is not, so don't spill it on your paint
As far as engine oil, I run synthetic in everything, I consider it cheap insurance as it gets incredibly hot here.
Don't worry about checking what it has had in it.
Get it hot, drain the oil and change the filter
Put in whatever oil you think is good enough
Plenty of info/arguments on synthetic vs mineral oil, pick one

This is all correct, but just let me emphasize, DO NOT mix Dot 4 and Dot 5 it will render your brake system useless.
Yeah, I was going to mention also and I could be wrong that there are different internal components, that is rubbers and seals that need the correct fluid, dot 4 or dot 5

That may be true on some systems since I have seen aftermarket units that say DOT 5 ONLY.
