Project FXDXT is underway
Changing the pilot to a 48 and readjusting the afr screw made a huge difference in how the bike runs. This is a stock 88 with Andrew’s 26 cams but it really gets up and goes now. I am quite impressed with it’s abilities thus far.
So I was yet to get this bike out in the canyons with the exception of the ride home from work which does not count due to the copious amount of traffic. All I can say is the combination of the cams, rejet, excellent stock suspension on this bike, my beloved fairing, and Michelin Commander II tires makes for a great ride. I cannot remember the last time I blitzed the canyon’s with such grace and ease on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Those who say this is the one of the best handling Harley’s ever made (second only to that of the FXR) are absolutely right. I now see why these bikes are in such demand. It is such a shame there are so few of them around as everyone should have one in their fleet. I let a buddy ride mine and we he got back all he could say was that he needed one. Mind you he has a CVO RG and a fatboy. I checked my tires when I got home and there was a little melting on the edges as I expected from the spirited ride. It seems that max psi on the Commader II’s in the sizes I have is 41 front and 42 rear. It ahs been a week or two since I last checked my PSI so I will adjsut it to 40/40 wehen I do. These tires are sticky as hell! And supposedly they will last twice that of a stock Dunlop. I‘ll believe it when I see it. Either way it will be difficult to convince me to put anything else on this bike from now on.
The power seems to be the best between 3 and 4 thousand RPM’s. I was wondering about this Dyna wobble thing in sweepers as the Dyna is relatively new to but there was no evidence of any such thing. This has me wondering if I really need a true track or sputhe now as before I was already decided on it. Bear in mind this bike is a 2002 with 33k miles on it as well. I have been through every aspect of it with a fine tooth comb so I see it as better than new.
Saturday morning I went down to C&C seats in Paramount, CA to test a fastback with a drivers backrest for this bike. Low and behold they had sold the fastback that fit my year and model dyna that had the drivers backrest on it. Not to worry. They grabbed one for an FXDWG and put it on my bike for me to see how it felt. It was great. And the drivers backrest is dual purpose as it will let me mount some sort of a bag on the rear seat via the backrest as well. The bike came with solid mount sissy bar and I want a qd. If you have one for sale please let me know. It must be black as well.
There is still plenty of stuff left to do to the Dyna. Lower must be blacked out. Fork boots will be put on the forks. 95” big bore and heads will be done. I have to do some rims, rotors, and pulley. The funny thing about this bike is I really like the stock rims that are on the bike. I am thinking about just powdercoating them black and saving our precious HogPro inventory for the customer. My front rotoprs are a bit warped which will probably be the very next thing dealt with as with the Brembo’s is it that much more apparent.
Anyway, this bike is far superior to most Harley’s I have ridden and it is a pleasure to ride .
