I checked my gas milage when I filled up this morning and it was 33 mpg. Not too bad. My fatboy with the 95 kit gets about 38. The Ogio bags came in yesterday. I am going to use some standoffs and mount the bags to the standoffs and then bolt them to the struts.

I'll document this and plan on doing this on Monday.

I got the bags all mounted up over the weekend and took off the OGIO logo as well. I used the standoffs that came on the bike but are definitely not stock. I also used the solid mount sissy bar plates inside the bags to give them a bit more rigidity. I am thinking that cutting some diamond plate to put inside the bags will work better but this seems fine for now. I put the standoffs out side of the bags and the sissy bar side plates inside the bags upside down. The bags are semi rigid but it would be nice if they were a bit more rigid.

I am still going to get the Bags I have on order whenever they come in but these will do in the mean time.

Back to the install. I got 3" long bolts, 10 small washers and 8 big washers. I drilled holes in the back of the bags where I wanted the mounting bolts to be after lining them up and measuring them. I put the bolts through the fender from the inside and then through the stand offs with washers and then the large washers on either side of the bag. On the inside of the bag I put the sissy bar side plates and a lock washer and the nuts with blue loctite. The 3" bolts seem to be a bit too long as they stick out inside of the bags but all is fine as long as you are careful. I noticed this morning that the standoff on the left side bag had hit the belt guard at some point ins time and left a nice scrape. I think the left bag needs to be spaced put a little bit further as the standoffs are only maybe 1" wide at the most at the top and are bolted directly on to the strut. The right side is fine and has not touched anything and there is tons of clearance between the bottom of the bag and the exhaust. Obviously the stand off touched when the bike was being pushed and the suspension was fully compressed. Anyway, I heard something when I pulled in from my ride last night and I assume that is what it was as my driveway is rather steep.

I also got my C&C fastback with drivers backrest over the weekend. I got the red diamond tuck on the entire seat and the backres and am not so sure about it but I'd love to hear feedback from everyone here. As far as fitment and comfort this seat is incredible. I have never had a seat with a drivers backrest and was not sure what to expect as they did not have what I needed in stock for a test ride.

At first it seemed that I sat a little bit further forward than with the seat that was on the bike when I bought it and I was contemplating a set of forward controls as such. fI was not so sure about this seating postion as I felt a bit cramped. Saturday I decided to take a few hundred mile ride toi break the seat and form an opinion on how it really is on a ride.

The first thing I had to realize was that I had saddlebags I could fill with stuff so that if it cooled off later on I could bring a jacket, water, clear glasses, all that stuff that women usually keep in their purses. I loaded up what I needed and still had enough room to put much more stuff than I could ever imagine taking for a days ride.

The seat is very comfortable and has a high rise from the drivers seat to the passenger seat that holds you in place well, but the backrest is what really makes this seat shine. I do not plan on carrying a passenger on the bike so i am not concerned with that part of the seat at all. that will solely be the base for my sissy bar bag for long trips as I plan on mounting the bag on the back of the drivers back rest. The backrest is not nearly as tall as the other sissy bar I have but I am assuming that it will work well enough. I will have to mock it up when I get a chance to ensure that all is well.

So my 250 mile or so trip on Saturday was the most comfortable trip ever. The backrest holding me in place, the fairing and windshield, the plush yet sporty suspension of the FXDXT all made for a great ride. Up until this point all i avhe done on this bike is a few canyon rides to and from work and back and forth on the freeway when in a rush.

I have never had back issues on bikes but I here to say that the backrest makes this bike my new touring rig. I could not imagine being any more comfortable on any other bike and the handling of this bike is far more flickable than a bagger due it's low weight and extremely tall shocks and forks. I did manage to get a peg to scrape the ground on Saturday as it appears I was really pushing the bike until I saw two Highway Patrols on the side of the road.

I like the seat and the pleating for sure looks nice. That seat looks like it would actually sit you farther back than a stock FXDX seat. Yet you still feel too far forward? Whats your inseam measurement?

I ask because I find the stock FXDX seat to be too far forward for my 34 inch inseam and mid controls, and was thinking of a C&C Fastback myself in hopes of an inch or 2 more rearward positioning compared to the stock seat.

Those DK footpegs look comfy but I was concerned that they would drag early since they are so long. Maybe with longer Works shocks they wouldnt drag.

Those OGIO bags look GREAT!

I just noticed that my mounting bracket for my Thunderheader has a crack in it below the rear most bolt that holds the bracket to the transmission. I am going to call them and see if I can get a new one and I will also weld this one. It has only been a few weeks that this has been on the bike. I am thoroughly disappointed with this pipe now although I love the sound of it.

Sucks about the bracket, but yeah, can't beat the sound, looks, performance of the TH'r.
OGIO's look great, now if only I can accomplish the same level of expertise in mounting some.

Lookin good, sorry to see the exhaust bracket. I'm still running the stock head pipes with SE slip-ons. Thinking of going to the supertrapp myself.

My buddy has a supertrapp and his broke too. I'm going to weld this one and see if another buddy can make me one out of billet, maybe it will last longer. I am thinking about grabbing a fatcat. Never heard of this with a D&D. I take this back as I just found a thread where a fatcat bracket broke too.

So I guess I will get a longer bolt for the bracket where the crack is and and some washers or something but I just tightened it up over the weekend which is when I suppose the crack started as I rode quite a few miles and at a high rate of speed.

When I tightened up that bolt it had loosened to the point it was finger tight. Hmmmm...

I'll get the bracket welded after chamfering the crack and see how long it lasts. Gonna pull it off when I get home tonight. I guess the faster you go the more the pipe vibrates. This pipe sure does sound killer though. I wonder if I get a custom machined bracket made out of billet if it will last longer, obviously making it thicker at this part. I am also gonna look at the V&H bracket I have at home and see what the difference is as that one was fine for the few weeks it was on the bike.

This whole thing has me disillusioned. But I will find a solution.
