Just found this thread. Hogpro- thanks for doing this, I really appreciate what you have done, especially since I bought a 2001 FXDXT this weekend. I haven't read all the posts yet, but I like what you're doing. I might start a similar thread focusing on rebuilding the stock saddlebags.
I am waiting on my Reproductions now. When they are ready I will be getting a set. Had a fatcat on the softail and it was fine too but the softail brackets mount differently and the balanced motor does not shake like the a motor.
I was checking out the bracket when i got home last night and I noticed that the nut off one of the bolts that holds the collector portion of the exhaust to the bracket was missing. I wonder if that had something to do with this.
I have a bracket for the pro pipe that took off the bike and am thinking I will see if I can find a way to make that fit on with the th over the weekend. At least the crack in the bracket did not get any worse on the ride home last night.
I'll pull the exhaust tonight and bring it in and weld it tomorrow as well and am waiting to hear on warranty issue from TH, I should hear today. Hopefully they will send a new bracket.
Obviously the issue with the brackets on the Dyna's and baggers is where they mount to the bike. On a softail they mount to the bottom of the frame and that smooth motor does not shake like the a motor. However I had no issue with the V&H bracket so we'll see what we can do with that tonight too.
I'm looking forward to another FXDXT build thread here too.
