What kind of radio box/tour pak are you looking at. The '03 only offer a mount. Is it a Whelen or fxrp box?
Thanks for the part nubmers. I am going to have to make a few calls and see what kind of pricing I can get on them as they are not inexpensive. Looks like it will run me $1200 or so to get the Defender bags. I have turned into a saddlebag junkie.
As far as the radio box I am thinking about a Havis box which can be bought without the wiring harness or lights on the outside for about $250 new I am told. I am looking for teh 11.75" wide box. http://www.havis.com/catalog/Motorcy...xes-889-1.html
If I ever get a chance I'll make a few calls to see what the deal is on these as a buddy of mine gave me the info I have right now.
The Mikuni HSR42 is in. I was reading the instructions and it says I need to route the throttle and idle cables under the frame as opposed to where they are on the side of the frame. And it also says I might need to remove a small amount of material from the side of the cooling fins on the motor. We'll see what needs to be done come Saturday when I have time to get this thing on.
My bike runs great with the stock carb jetted as it is so I am an anxious to see what kind of a difference this carb will make. Mileage is already terrible (33mpg or so) so I don't see it getting any worse than it is now.
I am still trying to decide what to do for the heads and stuff for the motor. I guess I should just get off the pot and send them out. I could have had everything back already and on the bike is the funny thing.
Anyone have knowledge on the FXDP? My buddies will be arriving here at our shop early next week and I avhe no idea what it comes with, if it is in stock form, etc etc. If you have knowledge please let me know.
For anyone that already has a Mikuni did you reroute cables and need to take anything off the motor? Also if you avhe a stock motor aside from stage 1 how did you jet and set the mixture screw?
No on the FXDX shocks and forks. The shocks are 13". Mine didn't have the light bar. The light bar is individual mounts that bolt on the lower triple tree. The turn signals mount like the FXDX. Try a google image search with fxdp. A lot of pics.
Thanks for the info. The next phase of this project has reared it's ugly head. I just got a police radio box off of an fxrp for the bike. I need to get a rack for it now and will get it painted to match the rest of the bike. But this was a score as it is not drilled for all of the lights as most of the ones that I have found are.
So my Dyna will become a full bagger after all. Something I said I would not do but since I ride it daily I might be able to do the grocery store on it now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/160859245938...ht_3762wt_1399
Patiently waiting for the install writeup on the Racetech fork springs still.....
And wondering how you are even riding that bike with the stock springs cuz they are rated for a 150lb rider.
I am also looking forward to hearing your feedback on the Mikuni HSR 42 vs a well prepped CV carb.
Yeah, the springs are sitting by the toolbox. One day I'll get to them but I avhe gotten used to the stock springs for now which makes me ask myself why.
I'll get some pics of the Mikuni install and include them with a nice write up come Monday along with feedback on differences. It seems everyone I talk to whom has a Mikuni says the differences are amazing and everyone I talk to who does not says you can make the stock carb work just the same. We'll see what the truth is for me but I certainly do hop that my nearly $300 was not spent in vain, although if it is it would not be the first time.
The next search is for a bracket for my new radio box/tour pack. Does anyone have an FXDP box and bracket or just bracket? If so are you willing to part with it? I have realized that my 2 up seat sits kind of high in the back and am not sure that the FXDP or FXRP bracket is tall enough to clear my rear seat and I am not getting a new seat right now after just shelling out the cash on that one. Worst comes to worst I will make one or have one made.
Another option I am considering is a qd rack that will work on my bike. IS there such a thing? I see Harley has one for 06 and newer Dyna's but I am not sure what the difference is between them and my bike. It seems my rear fender measures 8" wide. If you have an 06 and up measure your fender and let me know how wide it is. Also, are your strut bolts 10 3/8" apart? Any help is much appreciated gentlemen.
As soon as this meeting is over ima sneak out of work and go home. I'm painting some parts so I will give you the measurements. I think my fender is slightly wider ('06) than yours. I'll measure bolt center to bolt center and fender width. There must be slight differences because dyna seats all fit '05 and older and '06 and newer. They aren't all compatible according to HD.
