Yeah, the springs are sitting by the toolbox. One day I'll get to them but I avhe gotten used to the stock springs for now which makes me ask myself why.
I'll get some pics of the Mikuni install and include them with a nice write up come Monday along with feedback on differences. It seems everyone I talk to whom has a Mikuni says the differences are amazing and everyone I talk to who does not says you can make the stock carb work just the same. We'll see what the truth is for me but I certainly do hop that my nearly $300 was not spent in vain, although if it is it would not be the first time.
The next search is for a bracket for my new radio box/tour pack. Does anyone have an FXDP box and bracket or just bracket? If so are you willing to part with it? I have realized that my 2 up seat sits kind of high in the back and am not sure that the FXDP or FXRP bracket is tall enough to clear my rear seat and I am not getting a new seat right now after just shelling out the cash on that one. Worst comes to worst I will make one or have one made.
Another option I am considering is a qd rack that will work on my bike. IS there such a thing? I see Harley has one for 06 and newer Dyna's but I am not sure what the difference is between them and my bike. It seems my rear fender measures 8" wide. If you have an 06 and up measure your fender and let me know how wide it is. Also, are your strut bolts 10 3/8" apart? Any help is much appreciated gentlemen.
I think the Mikuni has a sharper throttle response than the CV, the CV has a little bit of lag since it is vac operated. The mikuni has a mechanical slide so it is right there.
No on the FXDX shocks and forks. The shocks are 13". Mine didn't have the light bar. The light bar is individual mounts that bolt on the lower triple tree. The turn signals mount like the FXDX. Try a google image search with fxdp. A lot of pics.
mine had 14 inch shocks , light bar mounts to engine guard and frame , turn signals are different too

Sonnydaze what year is yours? I wonder if the bikes could be ordered configured differently. I've seen spring mount seats and also frame mounted ones. I got the info out of the "03 police parts catalog. My engine & guard is all black wrinkle. Didn't mean to hijack... But there's so much info here.

mines a 2001 , it came with chrome guards and silver motor , my book says all fxdp had same light bar or atleast # is the same but your picture is different than any ive seen in person . after googling i found 2003 and 2004 had 3 different fxdp versions . a defender emergency and a regular defender and a defender peace officer

Found a FXDP box mount on ebay Item number: 280937828854
Dan, thanks. I spotted this one last night. I am not sure if it is going to work with my 2 up seat due to the height of the padding on the rear portion. If anyone else has any other source that would be great as well.

Mine didn't have spots mounted when i got it. All the fxdp's I've seen have been stripped' decopped. I would have liked the saddle bags on it still.
Robert (hogpro) the attached pic of the defender shows the radio box mount. Sits kind of high. Looks simple to fab one if you have access to a brake or other sheet metal tools.

i edited my post , 2003 and 2004 had different versions
I spent Saturday putting the Mikuni HSR 42 on my bike only to discover that the float bowl had a leak. I am going to be contacting Mikuni when I get a chance. I took pics of the install so I can document it for everyone. Rerouting the throttle and idle cables and filing off a bit of the fins down near the bottom of the carb seemed to be the biggest hassle of the install.
Needless to say I put the stocker back on and took the bike for a nice ride on Sunday. The thing that gets me about this whole thing si that I did not drop the carb. It looks like someone did but it warapped in bubble wrap, supposedly new and packed in the box. So, we will see what Mikuni syas to me. I bought this from Eastern Performance and they told me to talk directly to Mikuni which is located about 10 minutes from us so I will take it over there in person.
The bike still runs like a raped ape but once the bike fired with the Mikuni it sounded even better. So another week at least until I can get this mod done. Pics and such as time allows.
My new FXR bags are going to be here today as well. I doubt I will have time to get them on tonight but I will get some pics for everyone. And, Thursday the police radio box will be here. I have a buddy who is going to make me a bracket for it. I will provide him with measurements and thats is that. I feel like I am just getting started with this bike. Lots more to do believe it or not.
Hats off to Mikuni who is located 2 miles from our shop. I'll stop by after work and pick up a new flat bowl with gaskets and screws and that is that. Customer service that is hard to beat.
