Agreed...Please say you are using a matching front and rear wheel set.

Enjoying this thread as my T Sport should be arriving in a couple weeks.

I have to disagree with the quoted statement though.

The FXR has a longer wheelbase than the FXDX and FXDXT.

I'm pretty sure the FXDXs handle better than an FXR based solely on that.

I am not planning on doing one wheel at a time but I am trying to figure out the perfect finish for this wheel and getting a sample of it prior to deciding exactly what to do and this is proving more difficult than I had previously anticipated. I don't want just a solid black wheel, It needs to have something different that is not so common for me to really want to put it on the bike.

That wheel I posted the pic of was pc'ed in candy black which is more like a translucent gray and it looks great on the raw aluminum portion of the wheel but the anodized portion had some sort of reaction with the powder coat. I have never seen a wheel that has been masked off and powder coated that came out absolutely perfect and my goal is perfection. I am thinking of sending a rim to Joe Knapp (JRK) to see how it comes out. Maybe starting with a raw polished rim and getting part of it powdered in black and the other portion in a candy black. Or I guess we could powder the entire thing in candy black first and then mask it and do the black portion.

Once the details are worked out on the painting etc I can get some going for the bike. Obviously the goal is to offer customers the same services but it really ups the price of the wheels and I don't see people wanting to pay the extra. Thoughts?

I have been thinking about the air cleaner as well. I am thinking the RSD would look killer but I really dig the simplicity of the DK air cleaner as Dyna's are simple bikes. I don't have the cash for an RSD a/c right now so it stays as it is. Maybe I'll trick out the cover with a custom logo or something. Who knows.

This morning debacle was that the strap the holds the saddlebag closed came off at 5:45 am. It flew across the garage and I was miffed. It took me a few minutes to even figure out what had happened at this early hour of the day.

I used a few bolts and nuts to reattach it as I was sure I would have an issue with the bag flapping at 80 on the freeway. Yup, the bags are old and worn.

After a few more days on the motor build I am going to share my thoughts. This thing rocks. Could it be faster? Absolutely. Do I need any faster? Absolutely not. I am yet to take a long canyon and mountain ride since it has been broken in but I think that will be this weekends plan. I was not sure if my rpm level would change with the 37 cams and it really has not. 80mph is 4000 rpms still.

The biek runs a little bit hotter than it did before as is to be expected with a build of this variety but I am not sure it run's hot enough to necessitate the need for an oil cooler. Time will tell. Gas mileage seems to be about the same as it was before which is not great but will do. I noticed that when I go slow (meaning on the break in) the mileage is much much better. Funny how that happens.

I still need to get my radio box mounted and painted as well. I think that will be part 2 of the weekend so that I can get it here to work and the painter can come and pick it up and get it done for me.

I was talking to Howard at Motorcycle Metal over the weekend about options for new shocks for the bike and I really like the JRI shocks he is offering for my bike. http://www.motorcyclemetal.com/gpage39.htmlThey seem to be in my future. They are not inexpensive but I am more than willing to pay for quality suspension. I will be keeping my stock shocks so don't bother asking if I am selling them.

As for wheels, we have been working on getting something unique going but so far the experiments have not worked out very well. Time will tell on this. I wonder what a black candy on the stock wheels would look like. However, seeing as I work here at a custom wheel shop it seems that eventually the stock wheels will have to come off. Out 8 spoke wheel would match my rotors. What do you guys think about this wheel? the really cool thing about the wheel is that the lip is smooth, not stepped although it is difficult to tell from the picture.

I hate you! - those are the rims I fell in love with, but only found them after I bought the Harley 12 spoke version I have. Maybe in time I can justify getting yet an another set of rims for my dyna...

I like those wheels. I like odd spoke counts, but that's just me. Here's one of my favorites, renegade racine:

The Racine is nice but the spokes are too thin for my taste. Who knows. I'm heading up to Reno next week for Street Vibrations (or at least in that general direction) and will be ab le to wind my motor up unlike here in the city. We'll see how it does. I gotta get my box mounted this weekend so I avhe somewhere to carry all I need on the trip as I took the quick detach doc king points off when I mounted the saddlebags.

I know what I'll be doing tomorrow.

I agree with you HP..the thicker spokes would look nicer on a T...

How IS the gas mileage with the new powerplant? When my T was totally stock it was getting 45-52 mpg. After the instalation of the Screamin' Eagle carb modifications, air cleaner and V&H Short Shots the mileage went down to the high 30s and then slowly went back up to mid-40s which is where it still is today...

In looking at your bike how about a solid black rear wheel and that above pictured wheel out front...

Well I broke another air cleaner back plate I discovered this morning so I ordered a nice one. $$$$ for sure. Who knows when it will get here. They said Thursday but who knows. This is the third a/c back plate I have broken. I shimmed the breather bolts the last time I put the a/c on in hopes that would keep this from happening but it is related to the Mikuni Carb obviously. My carb came with the adapter for the carb but they also sell it separately. I am wondering if mine is not fully seated or on too tight or something. Has anyone else ever had this issue?

The a/c will remain a secret until it gets here. I am heading out on a trip on Friday and hope th have the new one so I can break that one too.

Yup, two emoticons on that one as I am miffed. The bikes new nick name is breaker.

As far as the gas mileage it really avaries with the speed I am riding. If I aride what I consider to be extremely slow it will get pretty good, around 38 or so. Remember when I got this bike the mileage was steadily at 33. When I ride fast it is about the same as it was before so I figure about 150 miles per tank and I will fill up. Certainly not great but for the power this thing has it is well worth it. The Andrew's cams rev really fast I noticed too.

I took the bike up to speed on Sunday out on the 1 by Oxnard with no one around. I took it up to 110 and it was smooth as silk and still had plenty more to go but that was enough for me where I was as there were freeway on ramps that were flying by every few seconds.

I also got my police radio box mounted over the weekend. It functions great. I made the bracket for it quick detach by cutting out a portion of the metal by the mounting holes as I cannot get my seat off without removing the bracket. I found this out first hand when I had a dead battery right after I got it mounted and wanted to fo for a ride. At this point I was glad I made it quick detach for sure.

Anyway it has not been painted yet, I think I will do that next week when I get back as I do not want to put people on a dead line as I have done with the a/c. Here is a quick pic with the box as it sits now. I am now thinking an FXRT box would work even better as it will hold a lot more stuff but they are not inexpensive. the cheapest one I found on fleabay was $350 and needed full paint too.

I still avhe not gotten to the fork springs yet. I am going to get the front end rebuilt at the same time I get my rear shocks which I figure will be around Christmas time.
