Thew bags that I have use the stock mounting hardware which utilizes the tab but newer version are not going to use that. The new version will lock to the bike, be more quick detach which is kind of hard to imagine and have the carrying strap. He is working on all kinds of cool ideas for other add on's but I am not going to give his secrets away here, I'll let people wait and see. These come off in 5 seconds so a more quick detach thing is really hard to imagine. I went to the grocery after work yesterday on the bike. Since I am leaving town I only got a few items but here is a pic of the large paper bag full of stuff going in the bag, and a pic of the fully extended bag in relation to the pipe. People who are concerned about the bag sagging are concerned about something that is not an issue. There is a metal frame on the bottom of the bag. See the pics. I am sure that I can get a full load of groceries in the bags which makes the store a breeze now. When I get back next week I'll do a full shopping trip and once the bags are loaded up tonight I'll get some pics of that too so you can see how much you can fit in here. I am a dealer for these bags now as well so if you are interested g ie me a shout. there are no discounts on any of his products in the effort to keep everything fair for all of his dealers.
Here you can see the clearance between the pie and the bag. Plenty of space even with the bag fully extended. I could fit 3 times the stuff in the bag than was in it in this pic.
I am also working on getting an FXDXT repro fairing to mock up for some pics for everyone as I can compare and contrast well with the original fairing that I have.
Thanks for the info.....I am interested in seeing the Repro FXDXT fairing mounted up as well. My concerns with the Repro FXDXT fairing on a FXDX is that we have a top mount headlight. I dont really want to use some ugly hunk of metal attatched to the original eyebrow mount to relocate my headlight down and out. So I am thinking I will have to fabricate a headlight mount from scratch.
It shouldnt be too hard, but I might have to swap headlights to a bottom mount style headlight that has the ball swivel on it already, then flip it upside down so I have the ability to aim it once it is mounted to a flat plate mounting surface. That way all I have to fabricate is cut the template out of flat metal (maybe aluminum), drill it for the top 2 triple clamp bolts, and drill one hole for the headlight mounting stud, and have the local fab shop put the 2 bends in it for me.
I will probably take the opportunity when buying a headlight to get a high output unit, with a one piece frenched in ring so that it adds some detail.
I am sure all you need is a spacer and to drill a hole in the triple tree to mount the light like it is on the FXDXT. Waiting to hear from John if they have any of these in stock as I a buddy with a 2004 FXDX wants the repro fairing for a run in a few weeks. I mounted the headlight on my wife's sporty like this although it does not have a fairing on it (yet).

I just put a twin cam cylinder and head in one of the bags without expanding it. I will put the other two in the tore bag tonight so I can take this stuff home.
Head and cylinder wrapped to go in the bag
The bag open without being expanded.
Head and cylinder in the bag with plenty of room to spare.
As you can see the bag is not sagging.
The set I have have the stock fxdxt brackets but the new ones will be different. My biek is setup with the bolt heads on the inside of the fender and a nylock on the outside of the stock FXDXT bushing for the bags. I avhe bolts run through the lower fender mounting points and they go into the magnet piece but the newer bags will not avhe this rear attachment point. The idea is for these to bolt right up to any Dyna whether it has the stock fxdxt fairing or not. Therefore you will not need the fxdxt fairing or to drill your stock fairing for the mounting pins.
With the stock brackets I put the upper part of the bracket over the fender bushings and pushed down until the slid into place. I then made sure the bolts I have in the lower rear fender went into the magnet portion of the bracket. That was it. 5 seconds is all it too.
So what do you guys think of all gloss black Sinister Big Daddy fat spokes on my Dyna with either chrome nipples or falt black nipples? I know I already have these rims on my other bike and they look great although they are a bit time consuming to clean. I only know of a few Dyna's that run these rims.
I am always looking to do something different than everyone else so this might be a good way for me to go. I would run tubes as I don't trust a sealed spoke wheel. Not a big deal as that is how I run them on my other ride too. Thoughts people?
