Here is a pic of one unexpanded and one expanded. It is cool that you have snaps to snap the top piece down while expanded as well.
Here i s aside pic with the bag expanded. There is plenty of space between the exhaust and bag with it expanded still. I have a jacket rolled up in the bag right now.
Expanded side shot.
Here is a pic UI snapped of the tire this morning. They are holding up great. I have 8000 on the rear but it was on the bike when I bought it so I don't know the actual mileage. It still has plenty of tread left.
Of course I have not gotten a gauge on it to measure but it still looks good.
The bags are here. John is a man of his word and they arrived when he siad they would. A rarity indeed in the motorcycle industry. My first thought as I opened the box is that these are really nice. I think a lot of the pics I have seen really do not do them justice as they made the material look like it had a sheen on it. The material does not have a sheen on it they fit right on with my existing setup in about 30 seconds. I have the stock fxdxt mounting hardware on the bike. These are not the quick detach version but I'll have them off in two shakes of a lambs tail. Here are the first few pics I snapped. I love the smell of new bags in the morning! I had to get back to work so later I'll do pics with them extended and such.
Right bag on
Closeup of the top to show my box rack which makes them sit out a tad bit further.
Right side view (I am yet to move the bike since I put them on)
Rear view (money shot)
Good stuff. I'll load them up before heading home with my heads and cylinders that are here in order to demonstrate how much they can carry as I need to take this stuff home. Also note all the space between the exhaust and the bag.
Nice!! They look nice and level. Are these bags using the rear fender mount that was original to the FXDX rear fender? You mentioned trading these back in on a newer version....What is John planning on updating on the new version?

John is adding d rings so you can unhook the bag, add a strap and you can carry it on your shoulder. He also plans on adding a laptop sleeve inside. He has other ideas he has planned but is trying to decide which to come out with next. When I was at his shop last night I took pictures of a motor in the bag. When he was riding earlier that day from Malibu he had a tranny in the other bag. It was a sight to see and say the least.

So are Johns bags using the rear fender tab that is originally on the FXDX / FXDXT?

Thew bags that I have use the stock mounting hardware which utilizes the tab but newer version are not going to use that. The new version will lock to the bike, be more quick detach which is kind of hard to imagine and have the carrying strap. He is working on all kinds of cool ideas for other add on's but I am not going to give his secrets away here, I'll let people wait and see. These come off in 5 seconds so a more quick detach thing is really hard to imagine. I went to the grocery after work yesterday on the bike. Since I am leaving town I only got a few items but here is a pic of the large paper bag full of stuff going in the bag, and a pic of the fully extended bag in relation to the pipe. People who are concerned about the bag sagging are concerned about something that is not an issue. There is a metal frame on the bottom of the bag. See the pics. I am sure that I can get a full load of groceries in the bags which makes the store a breeze now. When I get back next week I'll do a full shopping trip and once the bags are loaded up tonight I'll get some pics of that too so you can see how much you can fit in here. I am a dealer for these bags now as well so if you are interested g ie me a shout. there are no discounts on any of his products in the effort to keep everything fair for all of his dealers.
Here you can see the clearance between the pie and the bag. Plenty of space even with the bag fully extended. I could fit 3 times the stuff in the bag than was in it in this pic.
I am also working on getting an FXDXT repro fairing to mock up for some pics for everyone as I can compare and contrast well with the original fairing that I have.
