On to the weekend projects. I got my FXR bags mounted up on the bike on Saturday and I really dig them. They are definitely vintage looking as they have been used. I first mounted them with the qd brakets for the sissy bar. I then decided to take the docking points for the qd brackets off so the bags would sit closer to the struts. Sorry, no pics with the qd hardware on. I dig how these bags actually line up perfectly with the shocks and such. They also have plenty of space.

I then mounted up the police radio box mount for my radio box. I was not sure it was going to fit over the passenger portion of my seat but lo and behold it barely did. I never got around to getting the box mounted up as I had planned to do.

Next I put on a bunch of different air cleaner covers that I ordered from DK Custom products to see which I liked best. I could not decide so I need some help from you guys here. Let me know which you like best please.

After riding with this air cleaner for a few days I really dig it. Nothing has come out of their killer breather bolts and it is slimmer than a big sucker or any other a/c I have had so it does not hit my knee when my feet are on the forward controls.

But wait, I'm not done yet. I rode over to a buddy's house and started tearing the engine down for the 95" build next. I'll start another posting to explain that for those who are interested in what all is involved. I'll be going over after work for the next few days until it is completed.
Yes I have been busy.

Next was the intake manifold for which I got a tool from the fatbook (Drag Specialties) to assit with. I had been using a cut down allen wrench which was still a pain in the butt. Once you get the manifold bolts out unplug the sensor plugged in to the manifold. Set it aside with all of the other stuff. I use the boxes that my new parts are coming out of for the bolts and such as I know which bolts go where but it always a good idea to bag and tag if you are concerned about getting them mixed up.
Next I pulled the bolts for the right footpeg and rear brake lever. I put these bolts right back in the frame so that I know where they are when I need them.
Next was the tank. I used two vice grips on either side of the fuel line to clamp it off and cut the fuel line in the center. I lost a few drops of gas but that was it an the rest was drained into a gas can afterwards. Then was the rocker box covers. My bike had the hot toppers on the rocker box cover bolts. I used a small screwdriver to pry them off. Into the box with the rest of the bolts thus far. I then removed the 6 bolts on each rocker box cover and set them aside. I slid off the rocker box covers keeping front and rear in different areas so I know which came from which not that it really matters.

Next I removed the breather bolts and the rocker bolts and set them aside in the front and rear piles. On the the lower rocker box cover bolts. Pull them and set aide with the uppers. Next I pulled my pushrods out from the top although I have adjustable as I am disassembling everything anyway. I then pulled the clips off the push rod tubes and pulled the tubes. Next were the head bolts. Once they are out tap the heads with a rubber mallet and set them aside.
Now you can pull the cylinders off. I did not need to tap them with the mallet. they came right off. On to the cam cover. Before all of this I drained the crank case oil as well. Pull the cam cover bolts. Put the drain pan under the cam cover to catch any excess. If you are super **** wrap the frame with plastic, but I never bother.
Next for the cam plate. and lifter blocks. Once the cylinders are off I pull the lifter blocks as it is easiest to get at the rear bolts for them without the cylinders on the bike. Once the blocks are off pull the pin and then the lifters and set aside. I was concerned that the lifters might have some wear on them but they did not. Next for the 10 bolts that hold the cam plate and the oil pump. More oil will come flowing out once the oil pump bolts are removed. Once all the bolts are out slide off the cam plate and then the oil pump.
Since I already have the new s/e upgraded plate and pump on my bike there is no need to change any of these parts. I also replaced the inner and outer bearings 5000 miles ago so I am not going to replace them again. I checked them all and they are fine. Once the cam plate and oil pump are out I have removed everything necessary with the exception of the pistons.
