It's slow going over here for the Dyna. Waiting on lower legs to come back before I can really do anything else. So it sits dormant in the shop. Next order of business after the legs will begetting the oil leak sorted out. I am going to stop by a friends shop and see what he has to say once it is mobile again. Been rocking the softail which is still a blast although it is a completely different animal.
Just want to let you know that I too have been happily reading through your thread since I found it a week ago. I've owned an '02 T-sport for a year now, and love it. I was fortunate to get an unmolested almost stock bike with the original fairing and bags. While I won't make all the upgrades you have, I have really enjoyed reading about your progress. One thing I will do is upgrade the fork springs, so I am holding my breath waiting for the next installment. Waiting to see what the PCed lower legs look like, mine are looking a little ratty under the clear coat.
As far as wheel choices, I like the idea of blacking out the rims on the stock wheels, but then I love the look of this bike in stock form, so pay no attention to me.
It's great to hear that somebody reads my excessive rambling on and enjoys it. I am waiting on my fork lowers still and once they are back I will get the fork springs done and get everything back together. The poor dyna seems to be holding up the shop walls at this point in time. Anyway, once parts are in reassembly begins.
I too appreciate your discussion. 3 month owner of a 2001 FXDXT 32k. Addressing a transmission leak, brake master cylinder kit and cam tensioners are my first priorities, but for my first Harley, all I can say is "where have you been all my life?" Glad a got a bike that inspires such devotion.
Glad I can help. Still waiting on lower legs. Wheels on order, rotors should be on the way shortly and the pulley is getting powder coated as well. I was talking to John Conely about my engine leak over the weekend and he showed me what the problem is. It is not something I can explain without having a case in front of me but it seems that it is the case, not the green o ring that I thought it was which sucks. I am going to take it to a local guy and see what he can do. John said that an evo style base gasket can often time fix the issue. IF that does not work I'll take it to him and let him weld it as it needs to be.
I am going through Dyna withdrawals. I have once again become accustomed to my lowrider softail gangster sled which is completely different than any Dyna. Anyway, one week soon it will all be back together with new wheels, matching front rotors and pulley and lowers powdered the same color as the bike. That is kind of against the advice I usually give as I feel they have a tendency to blend in too much but we will see what they look like. Next up engine leak fix and then finally rear suspension. The race tech springs will be going in and fork gaiters going on when the lowers come back. I think i am getting close to being done. I also need to address my slipping clutch issue. Maybe i should do that now while the bike is down? Hmmm.
I just realized that the Race Tech gold valves will work in these forks so I ordered a set as my forks are already apart. BoJangles is the one who clued me in to this. The part number for anyone else looking for a set is FMGV-S2043 and they are available from any Drag Specialties dealer or direct from Race Tech I'd imagine.
I had a black 21" fat spoke we were mounting up so I leaned it on the bike for a pic. I think it looks good. Obviously I would keep the all black rotor on it.
let me know when you put on those spokes, ill take those mags
