Has anyone out there ever tried to put a street glide front end on a fxdf? I would really like to have the radio and fairing on my fxdf. What all fairings have been used? Please post pictures? I am also wanting to put a tour pack on. I saw at one time where a member jackyl was making the mounts, but have not been able to locate them? I love the look and feel of my fxdf, but it seems more and more that I am wanting the fairing, radio, and bags. I do not do a lot touring. Mostly just day rides. I do think the radio would be great. I have thought about trading in my fxdf for a switchback or a streetglide but have reservations. I like the naked fxdf. I do not like the naked switchback so far. The streetglide I really like, but they are a dime a dozen in my area. Don't start yelling I know they are a great bike, but there again I like the naked look every once in a while. Here a what I am contemplating. Put hard bags, tour pack, and removable fairing and hog tunes radio on my fatbob. Trade in the fatbob and buy a switchback and add a fairing or buy a street glide. My 09 fatbob I bought new only has 3000 miles on it if that tells you how much I get to ride. Any thoughts from those of you that have had both?
Would cost a hell of a lot less to put a reckless audio fairing for a road king on your Fat Bob than try and put a different front end on there. I will be putting one on mine as soon as the budget allows. I got the inspiration from reading the threads on the reckless fairing projects on different Dyna's and met up with Bigg Lou locally and checked out his 09' FXDF which he setup with bags, tour pack, and audio fairing following the ideas of others here on the forum.
None of the front ends from any of the touring bikes will work on a Dyna chassis.
That's not correct. There is actually a thread dedicates to FL front ends on a Dyna. It's quite a long thread too. Lots of guys have done it. The New Switchback even has a FL front end.

Those are done by modifying the FL softail (Fatboy/Heritage) front end to fit the Dyna frame, I don't know of any that have used a FL touring front end on a Dyna.

And none of those front ends are from a touring model. Take a close look at one and you'll see why. On touring bikes the triple tree is completely different. The forks actually sit farther back than the stem. They have been that way since the 80's. If you read the thread that you posted about you will see that it is done with a front end from a Soft Tail chassis. Just because it says FL it doesn't mean that they are the same.
So what is the verdict? Can it be done? I love the looks of the street glide fairing. I love the feel of my fat bob. I do not like the road glide fairing. Maybe I will just have to break down and buy the street glide. I am leaning more towards buying the memphis shades fairing and adding hogtunes. I would like to see any FDXF owners that have fairings on their bikes. Thanks to ALL
I see what you guys are saying. I forgot about those screwed up trees and extended neck on the touring bikes. If I'm not mistaken, the fork diameter and spacing is the same though, right? If it is, could you modify the mounts of a street glide fairing to work on softail forks?
