I am running a Long Ride Shields universal on my Fatbob ... works great better than my HD compact quick detach. It is not quick detach but I can remove it in under 2 minutes. It should work fine on the wideglide as well.

I really like the look of yours. I think it would look good on my bike. Can you tell me a little more about the detaching? I know you said it's not a quick detach but takes just under 2 minutes. I just don't want it to be a chore. Not that under 2 minutes is considered a chore but just want to be sure it is something I will be comfortable working with. Thanks!

I think the HD quick release Compact shield on my dyna is awesome. Great for cold weather riding. Also makes longer rides on the interstate much more comfortable. It's usually on my bike more often than not December through March. Nice thing is that it goes on and off in about 10 seconds.

The brackets that clamp the shield to the handlebars each have two allen head machine screws. You just need to remove the screws to remove the windshield.

Since then I've noticed that Memphis shades now sells a deflector that mounts on the forks below the shield. I think this would work pretty well.

A lot of guys hate the way a windshield looks (myself included ... well, hate is a little strong) ...

The other complaint is the 'buffeting' (or, sometimes 'buffering' -- although the term 'buffer' means to absorb blows) ...

The 'buffeting' wind comes primarily from about three places ... over the top, underneath and lower sides ... the windshield height and angle (or design, in the case of streamlined / shaped windshields) affect the over-the-top airflow ...

There are various lowers designed to cut the wind flowing up from the sides (including solid, blade-looking devices that mount down alongside the fork tubes) ... these are highly praised for their effectiveness ...

Another thing that a handful of guys have tried is adapting a 'deflector' device from the Touring models that is like a section of a frisbee ... the way it has been adapted for Dynas is to mount under the lower triple tree where the brake line retaining loop is bolted to the bottom of the triple tree (on the touring models it bolts to the back of the lower triple tree) ...

This summer I left my fairing in the garage and rode around bare chested ... I ride at ~70 mph for 40 minutes at a time ... when I first removed the fairing, I had to kind of get used to the parachute effect on my chest ... toned up the muscles on my abdomen, upper thighs and neck ... but, I am used to it now ...

If you're not used to riding at or above 70 without a windshield, it is pretty fatiguing ... will wear you out physically ... (and there is a big difference between riding at 60 and 75 mph ... especially over 30 or 45 minutes ...)

So, if you are not used to it, a windshield is your friend for sustained high-speed cruising ... (good looks or not) ... then, the question is whether you think you need some additional accoutrement / devices to further cut down on the wind that still gets through ...

Good luck with your decision ...

It's much better...

I have the same "SuperSport" windscreen and at 5'8" it was way too tall for me. I used a jig saw to remove 3" off the top to bring the windscreen's top edge back to where I now look over it instead of through it... which is how it should be.

It still looks awful, and you'll really need to add deflectors to the lowers to address buffetting which really make the bike look awful.

I only install mine for long road trips and everything comes off the minute I get to my destination. For around town, I minimize freeway time and don't mind the wind blast.
