2004 Dyna Super grips replacement
I'm looking to replace the crummy, beat-up rubber grips on my 04 super glide. I noticed a lot of vendors selling grips without a new throttle tube and was wondering: if I get grips that don't come with a new throttle tube, could I seemingly replace the grips without taking off the existing throttle tube?
I'm asking because for one thing the grips without the new tube are cheaper and for another if I can leave the stock throttle tube on then I won't have to mess with the throttle cables, which is good for me because I'm not sure exactly how to set them back up properly.

Hairspray is what we used to use on our bicycle grips as kids!
I'm gonna go ahead and order up a set of grips without the throttle tube. Hopefully I wont have to cut the existing grips off, because i'd like to keep them around but they're pretty thick material so it may be difficult to get them off otherwise.
Then again if I cut them thats one less 'extra' part I have collecting dust in my garage..

I have ISO grips on my SG and I accidentally pulled off the throttle grip when I pulled on it while getting the bike level to roll my lift under it. I glued it back on with Weldwood contact cement. Weldwood contact cement is widely used in aviation because that stuff will glue just about anything...a 3 oz bottle cost about $3.50 and you can get it at just about any hardware store, Home Depot, or Lowe's.
I installed new grips on Atlas and didn't have to glue the left side. Even though it's a 2004, the newer HD system works. Very convenient,

Get the new grips and go to youtube and google Harley throttle adjustment. Scroll down to softail and dynaglide Harley Davidson maintenance video. Mike Durham does a good job of showing you how to adjust the throttle cable and return cable to get the slop and slack out of them. I do this everytime I service my bike and I seem to always have a little unwanted slop in them.
I did not glue my left grip back on when I changed over my handlebars over the Christmas Holiday. It was tight and I did not think I needed to glue it but it would slip over time and I would find myself constantly pushing it back up so I pulled it off and glued it a few weeks back when I glued the throttle grip back on. It has not slipped since.
