Something weird with my speedo happened today. I was driving to work and the speed was off to the low side by about 30%, (not a constant number). At 70 it was reading about 50 and at 25 it was reading about 17.
I stopped and turned off the bike “sort of rebooted” and it came back on as normal.
This is a 2000 FXD, 88 w/carb, the speedo is electronic (not cable). I have the mouse ear set up with the tack and the tack was normal.
Any ideas as to what may have cussed this? Faulty ground? I would like to get to the bottom of this, I hate having gremlins running around the bike.
Thanks misfit, I'll take a look tonight. I HATE Intermittent problems. I would rather the dam thing just break so the problem can be identified and corrected.
I have this happen with both my dx and dxt if I dont watch the needle on the spedo move when I turn it on it will do the same thing. I have to restart the bike to get it right again.
Take a look at your ground to the speedo itself.... the speedo and tach run off of common electical...(they share), at least it's like that on my '06 FXDi. If one is working well, and the other not so well, that kinda narrows it down ....IMO, It's worth a shot...
i had the same problem on my 03 softail deuce. sometimes the digital would blink off and on and sometimes the needle would fall or stick part way...then when turning ignition on or off it would sometimes reset...i was told to pull the sensor to see if it had metal fragments attached to it and it did...but that didn't help and i am still trying to find a fix...i have the 88 twin cam and the sensor is on right side just below the oil pan...i would check that if you could
