Wow, very cool to see the changes. Hope you get to enjoy some riding soon. Sadly (but not really since I work in the ski business), it's starting to get cold here. Looks like yesterday may have been one of my last days out for the season.
In the meantime, thanks in part to your thread and helpful advice, I've started to gather the parts for my cam change. Picked up a jack yesterday (parts to modify for Dyna stability today), got a top end gasket package from the dealership, and have both the cams, lifters, tools, and bearings in my Amazon cart for later ordering. Still waffling on whether to go adjustable pushrods or stock. So many different notes on whether or not I can even use the stock ones with the Andrews 57's. We shall see.
Ok guys, picked up my bike Thursday and brougt it home on my trailer. The high temperature Thursday and Friday was 38 degrees F so I waited until today to go for a ride - temperature got up to 45 degrees F.
Before riding I had to fix a small problem, the muffler was rubbing against the axle cover. Tried to use 2 washers to shim the muffler out but that was still no good and there was not enough bolt thread left to add more washers nor did I want to shim out any more. Bottom line, had to loosen everything up and pull the axle cover off - plenty of room now but need to hit that axle head with some black.
Steve has done his magic again, the bike runs great and the Fat Cat has really improved the performance. Before I never wanted to run below about 2900 rpm, now it is great, there is plenty of "bite" if I need to jump on it all the way down to about 2200 to 2300 rpm. I jumped on it pretty hard one time in 2nd gear and about 3500 to 4000 rpms my back end cut loose and started going out to my right
The sound is fantastic - sooo much deeper and reverberating! Sounds much more like what a Harley should sound like, love it!
Your bike looks great and you can really here that cam with the D&D compared to to Bassini.
Yeah and one time yesterday when I was accelerating hard, I hit a pretty good bump and my butt came down on the back part of the seat!
Totally agree with you on the sound, I scratched my head awhile thinking about the right word to use in my last post - "reverberating", that is the cams and pipe together putting out some serious music!
Hey soft 02, like discussed before I have no lathe for drilling the pr tubes and I had bought a Dremel drum grinder/smoother but thought that might be a little hard to be precise with, so I thought I would just sand the inside edges off with some Emery cloth. I figured if the prs were to hit the inside of the pr tubes, the most likely place would be the inside edges at the top or bottom of the top pr tubes.
Here is a pic of one sanded (left) and the other not yet(right):
That reminds me, I have a little pocket hand reamer I once used on copper tubing before I retired from the HVAC industry. Maybe this would work?
