Thumbs up short shots

i have the short shots with quiet baffles, with the fiber glass wrap removed, just for back pressure,
no loss in power in any gear, its one of the fastest fab bobs on the road, with just stage 1 SEPST,SCREAMING EAGLE INTAKE. ETC,

I have a couple of pals that have SS's on their dynas and sportsters. I actually enjoy the sound and look on these bikes. Yes, they are loud but so what. That's what the owner likes. They look pretty sweet, too. I went with my propipe mainly because that was the look I wanted. We all ride our bikes as cruisers. Not blasting from stop light to stop light and not flying WOT down all the back roads. We love Harleys and we love the different options out there for everyone. So if someone wants SS's, great. If not, who cares?

I recently put a set of the Smart Partz baffles in my Short Shots because I wanted to try and quiet the bike a little bit. These work great, at idle there is about a 12 decibel drop, and the tone changed, has a bit of a deeper rumble now. Also, almost all of the popping on decel is gone now with the added back pressure. Very happy hear for the $75 bucks it cost me, and still have the great look of the Short Shots.

I love my short shots, they are loud there no doubt about that and that's one of the main reasons I love them. Although I have had no experience with any other pipes

I noticed a SLIGHT drop in power on my FXDB with the Short Shots. I LOVE the look and the sound is outstanding. With a dyno tune, that drop in hp should be corrected. I will eventually be going to a 2 into 1 pipe. They DO produce better performance and I am also in the process of making my streetbob into a club styled bike. This is where I am at currently:

Back pressure is not the problem with short shots and performance. The real issue for them or any really short duals is reversion. There is 15 psi waiting at the end of every tailpipe to send the pulse waves back thru the exhaust, on a shorter pipe this wave goes back too early often disrupting the next charge on combustion, this hurts power.

But all in all, not too badly if not chasing numbers. You have to stare at it and love it...so get what makes it look the best.

I'll throw in my $.02....

Bought my 2009 Fat Bob used. It had Short Shots on it with the stock/open baffle. I liked the sound (loud) for a while, but I have neighbors and so does my gf, so I decided to try the quiet baffles. My results, purely from observation rather than any measurements. Keep in mind, I don't know if or how well my bike was tuned when the Short Shots were installed. It seemed to run fine, accelerate fine, has a lot of pull, etc, but I have nothing to compare it to.
  • Tone deepened slightly - sounds less like a 2-cylinder dragster and more like a 2-cylinder muscle car
  • Deceleration popping all but disappeared.
  • Vibrations decreased slightly but noticeably both at idle and at highway speed
  • Noise dropped slightly but noticeably both at idle and at speed.

Check out some dyno sheets on the short shots vs. other pipes. It's a pretty substantial torque dip around 2800 RPM. If that doesn't bother you then go for it.
