Question Lhcm

Hello. Newbe here. Been riding street bikes for 30 years. On 2nd Harley. 2021 Road King Special. I did a bar swap. Was getting U0141H on ECM, BCM & ABS. Also U0142H on ABS. Also check engine light. Being historic comm. codes, I cleared them multiple times. When I went riding the ck. eng. light would come back on and the codes would be back (still historic) Cleared and went again several times. I pulled LHCM to make sure no wires were pinched. When I reassembled, all of a sudden my LHCM went blank. Nothing working and can't read codes anymore. Thinking possibility I pulled wires to hard during install and or I pinched a wire in the housing somewhere. No bad fuses. So to eliminate my possible error, I ordered new switch wires from NAMZ long enough to eliminate the extensions previously installed. I also bought a new Throttle by wire from Harley. To eliminate the possibility that the LHCM went bad, I also bought new lighted switches from Harley.
Installed everything new. Very meticulously pulled new wires. No pressure used in pulling. Made sure wires were installed in housings correctly and no wire could be pinched when installed on bars. Replaced all the fuses in the fuse block to make sure one wasn't burnt or broken even though they look OK. I didn't de-pin any connectors. I've checked that all pins are fully locked in connectors. Still no power to LHCM. RHCM works and lights up. LHCM don't light up. No functions on LHCM work. Left signal light comes on and will flash with hazard control from RHCM. What could be causing my problem? I need someone way smarter than me to help!!

Welcome.

Hopefully if you are doing this kind of work you have a DMM & a FSM. Try this:
- with ignition on check for power at the LHCM by measuring between the + & - at the LHCM. Whether or not you have power, wiggle all the wires to see if the voltage fluctuates, if it stays as power then the LHCM is probably bad.
- check continuity of all the wires between the LHCM & BCM with you DMM.
- check to ensure there is no connection between any of the wires to ground.
- If all the above checks out, then I’d replace the LHCM.

Also, with some diligence, you could hook up the RHCM to the LHCM wiring at the LHCM…and see if the RHCM works. If it does work..then your LHCM is definitely bad.

Btw…this is not the first post of things going bad after swapping bars.

Turns out the brand new lighted switch housing (LHCM) I bought from Harley 6 days ago is bad. The right one works and I had to put my old one back on the left. Everything is working perfect except the new part!

Hi Tim, welcome to the Forum from Utah.

Look at the schematic, do you have 12v on the red battery fuse wire pin 1 on connector 24 D? If not you need to trace that wire back and find where it’s open.

The other pages are from a 2016 Electrical Diagnostic Manual , I’m guessing it’s the same procedure for yours. Connector 91 is the data link connector under the left side cove.
