At those miles Your pretty much need to pull top and cam cover. The cam runs at half speed so u might have lost the bearing in the cases or bushing is toast in cam cover . Either way just take it apart. Pull lifter screen out and look to fund metal. Hey u got 65k out of it before anything. Crank and rods do pretty well if u never ran it out of oil.
Good luck. Lots of good help here

If it's the inner bearing, lots of guys very carefully take everything apart and save all the pieces. If everything is accounted for, you are good to go for just replacing the bearing with the older good one. If you're missing pieces, some guys get lucky fishing down the holes with a magnet. Cut the oil filter open too. I would certainly do all that before tearing the bottom end apart. And it might just be a lifter. You might get lucky.

Unless you stroke it or drop something down into the left side of the case there is no reason to split the cases.
As for the rest of it how big is your wallet 'cause we can have some fun emptying it!!!!

The "may as well's" and "as long as I'm in there's" add up quick on these things, don't they!

Let me know if you decide to refresh your engine .

I've got part numbers and prices from mine handy. It's a good combination of parts, bang for the buck kind of thing that makes good reliable power.

Here is a taste of what you will be in for (link below). And I agree, the "oh by the way" and the "might as well" ads up quick but makes sense to do...

The leaking base gaskets on those Evo's is a result of an un-machined surface from HD.
We have a fixture to true those here.
Cam bearings and lifters are the other problematic areas of those, and to be quite frank, the cam chest area in these motorcycles is the root area of many issues.
Happy to help.
