Don't have a lot of experience with Mikuni's but do you know what is currently in it? Hey wise?
Here's a tuning PDF the Ed Ramberger posted a few years ago.. He has lot of Knowledge when it comes to tuning just about ANY Harley.. Good guy.. It'e in the following link to a thread here in HD Forums.
Hmmm...id have to look at the paperwork and manual that came with it to see if it says whats in it. They did send a set of jets with the carb...not sure if theyre bigger or smaller, id guess bigger since most motors are modified to at least a stage one. Thanks for that link...Ed is a very knowledgeable guy, i wish i knew a fraction of what he does. I think i need to start at the beginning and figure out what is in it now, set the air mixture screw and idle over. Then make an adjustment and ride it...rinse and repeat as necessary. Going to read that other thread...thanks again
Just a few things...bike is running fantastic. Maybe a little hot but after getting stuck in 4th of July firework traffic i think its ok. I found out the hard way that the petcock i was sent doesn't have a reserve lol...what i thought was a pingel is not...after thinking about the installation of it i have no memory of the main having the tube sticking up, there was nothing but the filter that didn't fit through the fitting. Live and learn. Luckily we were heading in the direction of the gas station so we looked like pros rolling up to pump with just enough momentum. With that the fuel gauge is not working...yet...looking at the schematic theres a wire that goes to the gauge and one that went to the fuel pump then jumped to the gauge. That wire was connected to the injection wiring that removed but it went to a relay. So i think it was just 12 volt power that would come on with the pump so maybe i can just run a wire to it? Not sure but its on my to do list for sure, along with getting a petcock that actually has a reserve. I was amazed that a 5 gallon tank held 5.2 gallons.
Oh...my electrical lessons have already paid off. About a week ago i was riding and all the gauges. Minus the speedo went out. I figured it was still charging and i had all the lights still so i carried on. Got home, blown fuse. Ok...maybe it's just a 27 year old fuse and it was quitting time. Nope new popped immediately. I didn't panic...lol...i figured it has to be a short somewhere but its only one wire running to the gauges and then it splits off. Started testing continuity and as i was trying to get the probe down to one of the gauges it hit the radio bracket and beeped...bingo...definitely shorted somewhere. Started at the top and where the factory black plastic stiff was gone for a branch of wires the orange wire had rubbed through where it was sitting on the bracket. Fixed it up and its been awesome since...knock on wood.
5 gallon tank is nice, I try not to go over 120 a tank before I definitely fill it up just why I don't have to worry about hit and reserve...
And yes definitely spend the money and get a good Pingel.. They are worth it.. lift time repair warranty.. Just send it in and they'll send it back like new or new one.. But call first..
