I'm finally going to start converting my 99 Road King to carb. I came across an ignition harness from an 01 for a very good deal (99 harness was obsolete and couldn't find one anywhere online). I wondered if anyone has done this and may have some tips on making it work?
I'm going to be running an s&s super e carb, Daytona twin tec ignition, and pingel tank adapter and petcock for my conversion
i just did mine, and heard it run for the first time friday, mine is a 2000 FLHTCI, i used the 32435-02 harness with a Dynatec 88p ignition module, this way i was able to disconnect the cam sensor, my tank was very easy to convert, but heard the 99 and older tanks need some tubes cut out from the inside to get the petcock to work unless you buy a used carb tank, your stock coil will work, you will need the top bracket that holds the choke cable, map sensor from the MM will work, hardest part is removing the metal tubes inside the tank but is very doable.
My bike sounded so much better and i am using a stock CV carb, and runs cooler and is very responsive
I changed mine over a couple years ago. I used the stand alone Thunder Heart ignition. It was the best thing I believe I ever bought. Simple installation and I didn't have to purchase any wiring harness that people want way too much money for. It comes with a module that has the timing advance that you can adjust and a new coil. Works flawless. I changed mine to a CV carb (that was a new take off and has been in some dudes closet for all these years). The carb and intake looked like it never had any gas run through it. All in all I had less than $400 in it all. The gas mileage isn't as good as what I could get with the MM EFI but the dependability and the simplicity is there. I've got 80K on my Road King so that proves I do a lot of riding. I think you'll enjoy the change over after its all said and done. The ONLY draw back to doing it the way I did is that you use the auto cancel on your signals (bid deal!). Good luck with your change over!
This is Roadkill from Brooklyn New York. Im going to change my 99 road king to carb and need all the info and help I can get. My RK has 70k plus miles and runs great. I liked the efi my ecm went bad so I gotta change.
I want to ride ASAP and with things the way they are money is tight. The most work I have done is change the stator and replace the cam tensioners. I need to source some used parts. How do I deal with the 2 holes in the fuel tank is there a kit I can get.

Old post, but you can run a 1/8" pipe tap in a few threads and convert to 18" pipe fittings. Don't run in too much of the tap A 1/8" pipe tapered plug or a brass close--rnd cap fitting with correct sealant would do the job. Believe you need to retain rear hole for petcock. Ken
