9 3/4 out of 10 times even after the carb was cleaned, idling problems are caused by a dirty idle circuit in the carb or a damaged idle, mixture screw..try to clean it again, jets need to be clean, but the passages need to be clear too behind the jet..some of the holes are too small to even get a wire in,you need to unravel a small piece of electrical wire, and use one strand.a vacuum leak could cause it,you would hear a air sucking sound and it will run rough at all rpms .could be caused by an extremely worn out carb, low compression, leaking valves,or ignition problems..but that is rare
Why did you rebuild the carb??? Did it run OK before that?? Did it ever run right?? If so, what was done to the bike before it started having problems?? Can we get some history here?? Are you sure you don't have a vacuum leak at the spigot, did you put a new gasket on the manifold and use some liquid soap on it so the carb goes in easier??
Its been like this forever to what I know. As for the intake to carb seal Its stock on the bike and dont look to bad and it slides over pretty easy on the carb. Also it wont run long enough to check for vac leaks
The easier the carby slides into the manifold gasket, the more likely it is to be stuffed...if the carby falls out of the seal then its had it, should be a fairly hard push to get it in there.
Just my own experience here. I rebuilt, cleaned, changed jets etc my carb this week also. I decided to get new mounting seal? for the carb. The one they gave me at the hd dealer looked exactly same but was loose. Same exact symptoms u are descibing till I went to the trash and got out the old one and installed it. It was a huge vacuum leak around carb that was big enuf u couldnt hear a whistle nor could keep running long enuf to ck.
