On my 98 FXD. OK, when i start it up and get it warmed up, it idles @ 1000 rpm on the side stand. When i pick it up off the stand, the idle drops to 600 to 700 rpm. If i tilt the bike to the other side, the rpm will go back to 1000 rpm. Mind you the front end is straight. It just won't idle @ 1000 rpm when its up straight.
The carb is a fresh build, jets, emulsion tube, needle, etc, are all new. float is adjusted to 0.425".
The carb did this before the build also.
I am stumped on this one. Anyone know what the heck is going on here?
Can i get some feedback on this?
I had a float problem that exhibited the same issues. At least on my bike even when the float was exactly where is was supposed to be, it did that. AS WELL as running over when shut off. The overflow problem I only experienced when I switched out the factory vacuum petcock with a manual one. Anyways, I had to adjust the float lower than factory specs.
It doesn't need to overflow to upset the idle....if it goes too low it will run lean and that will put your idle up, but running rich can have the same effect. None of the bikes I have set up the carbys on do this and I use 11.5mm but you must have the carby at that 20 degree angle when checking and double check that the float has contacted the needle valve but not compressed the internal damper spring....that's the hard part, not the measuring or adjusting.
+1 on the float setting. Every bike I've seen that changes idle from being on the side stand to sitting upright has had a problem with the float whether it be adjustment, dirt or a bad valve.
