Default Need opinions quick.

Another friend is looking at a 1985 Super Glide. 40,000 miles. Just called and said he drove the bike, runs good, but starts vibrating really bad when he hits 5th gear. Any suggestions on what might cause that? He's at the sellers house now.

It has solid mounts, it's gona vibrate! My solid mount softail is smooth
Till 55mph or 5th gear, then it's pretty darn smooth
After I pass 65 mph.

The guy said it vibrates really bad, but only in 5th gear. If he drops it down a gear, vibration goes away. Seller is asking 4k for the bike. I wondering cracked frame, bad motor mount. He said the vibration is pretty intense in the seat and handlebars.

An '85 SuperGlide-chain drive-I'm guessing that would be a 4 speed instead of 5.

Top motor mount usually causes the shakes but it's usually at any speed.

I got a 84 Superglide tranny on my 88 FXR and it's a 5 speed. Has a kickstart kit been added or removed? 5th gear has to be changed when adding a kick. So there could be vibration if it wasn't changed back.
