It was the jackshaft screw....... There's a flat washer with a tab (lock washer) that broke off........ So, I ordered a "spyke" jackshaft kit and a new gasket....... All should be good.
Grrrrr...... Not the jackshaft screw and lock washer at all! It's the damn starter clutch....!
First off, that starter is a real B to get out of evo bikes, and an even bigger pain to crack open. Starter shaft spun freely in both directions (bad starter clutch) I'm on the fence now...... Just buy a new starter, or the clutch and use the spyke kit I have to essentially rebuild my starter?
Any opinions? There's a gazillion starters on fleabay, who's a good vendor/brand?
Lol..... Explain? Is this normally problematic? I've had only 2 other EVO bikes, and they were both kick start bikes. I've had a number of TC bikes, and NEVER had a starter go out
I had an aftermarket starter on my FLHTP and I still replaced 2 clutches. I'd replace the clutch. But that's just me...... and I like wrenching........

I like wrenching too...... But not paying to replace faulty parts all the time
If only I had a Dyna.......! That oil tank doesn't leave much clearance. Finally got the starter cracked open, took an impact driver to get those screws out...... Pretty good design, at least I know it won't rattle apart
