Default Charging question please

Recently purchased '08 cvo Springer (110cu in). Only 2500 miles on odometer. All winter had no issues with battery tender. Now when I go for a short ride(waiting for warm weather, been sick for 3 + weeks) and plug in The B.T. it takes an especially long time for indicator to show "fully charged." Yesterday, after 50 miles it took about 3 hrs to charge. Cheapo tester shows battery is fine with engine off. After starting bike it shows barely producing 14 volts. Dealership says stator and labor will run about 4 bills, or More! Ideas Please. / Thanks

If your stator or regulator are going out you should get trouble codes.
If you have low voltage you should be getting code P0562 (low voltage)

My bike only puts out around 14v and it stays pretty steady there.(I have a voltage gauge)
So I think your running voltage is good, however it could be suspect.

First I'd visually check all the wiring to make sure it's all secure.
A loose of damaged wire can cause a battery to not only slow to charge but also cause it to drain.

I always question the battery first.
If it's more than 3 years old, I'd replace it regardless of how it test out.

Then if the problem remains I'd replace the regulator with a Cycle Electric regulator.
It's a easy swap and the Cycle Electric regulator is a good upgrade even if the existing one turns out to be good.

Then if all else fails, looks like a stator but that should be checked prior to just replacing it.

Default Charging System

There some tests that will indicated if it is the battery or the charging system. You need to use the search function and find the trouble shooting procedure for your electrical system.

First thing I would do is to take the battery, after overnight on a tender, to a local auto parts store and have them load check it. If it checks good, then start the charging system tests.

$400 is about right unless you want to do it yourself.

The OP stated 400.00 not 4000.00.. IF it needs to be changed, its not a bad price.. As others said, start w/the battery. >3 yo, swap the battery..

Usually if the system is under voltage it's the stator and if it is over voltage it's the voltage regulator. Those are not hard and fast rules but they help somewhat.
If you remove the derby cover and smell inside the primary, if the stator is fried, it has a distinct odor. The battery and the smell test would be my first two steps.

Perfectly normal. I have had batteries where it takes all day after a ride for the BT to show normal, and some where it happens after a few seconds. Depends on the situation.
When I go for 5 minute ride, my BT takes about 30 seconds to show normal. If I go for a longer scoot, sometimes it's on all afternoon before it goes green.
3 hours is normal. So is 5 minutes. and...so is 14 volts after startup.

Hey guys. thanks a lot for the input. Guess I need to check all connections(DUH!) then see where things go from there. Dickey! I hope your advise turns out to be correct. And, my wallet thanks you.

There aren't too many bike batteries lasting 9 years. If you put in a new batt. it wouldn't hurt to put a charge on it first. Then do a voltage test while bike is running, you are looking for 14.2-14.4v .
