Ok, Here ya go.. My kickstand got lubricated about an hour ago by the wife. Early riser!
Now on a serious note. I replaced my spring when it broke. Luckly it was in the driveway and not on the road. I went to the hardware store and got a regular spring as closely matched to the size as they had and its been on there for about 4 years now. It dosent have the swivel ends like the original but it works. At that time, The nearest dealership for parts was 35 miles away.
Buy a new spring. Take the bolt out of the top of the stand, (bolt that is through the tab) fold it forward take off the old spring put on the new one , lube the shaft on the stand put the tab and bolt back on your done 20 min. tops.

+1, please dont use vise grips. you dont need any tool but a half inch for the top bolt. 5 min job.
Whenever I notice the stand not springing back I clean the pivot point with some brake cleaner and lube it up with spray on lithium grease, that puts the "BOIIING" back in the ole spring.
geezus twisted, what are you doing that you are losing them things? Are you knee dragging in the corners and the "jiffy" stand is catching?
Inquiring minds and all that **** need to know
Cheap *** import parts , getting hard to find anything of any quality to fit the older bikes anymore and it's not a dealer item for shovels . Later bikes are a different length no interchange .
I've had them brand new out of the kits pop the hook first time it was stretched . I'll use and old grimy OEM before a new chrome one if I can find them .
PS : look how high my bike sits , I use ALL the chicken strip on the side of the tire and don't drag anything .

While you're swapping the spring, ya might want to check the stand bushings. I lost an entire kickstand assembly on a bike that was less than a year old because of bad bushings!

Lube helped. Bushings looked okay. Ordered a new spring from the dealer (had to go there so my wife could sit on the Fatboy Lo anyway...rough life sometimes). Thanks for all the feedback...and the one joke was a good one. I can always use a smile, thanks for the charity.
