Bates military/police style boots. Very light weight, zip up sides, composite toe if you so desire, very comfortable on the bike and off. $80 - $495 depending on model. Typical models around $150 often found for much less at Sears, Cabelas, whatever. $700 for boots? Whatever floats your boat

I was a telephone lineman for years and wore Redwings other guys wore Whites or Wescos. I thought at the time a lot of money to walk thru dog **** in back yards....

I'd go Chippewas. Could be the last pair of boots you have to buy....they are that good.

Get a pair of Limmer Lightweights. Once broken in they are the most comfortable boots I've ever owned. Most comfortable pair of anything actually. They'll also last 20+ years.

Whatever you do, try before you buy since everyones feet are different. I have a narrow foot and have yet to find a pair of engineer boots that fit right and don't feel too wide. I have logger boots from Chippewa and Carolina and like both brands.

Wow, brings back memories when I was a kid back in 1957, my buddy and I wore engineering boots for years when we were kids, everyone made fun of us, because we didn't wear Red Ball Jets, or Keds, or Chuck Taylors, quit wearing them for almost 40 years, but now I'm back home just like the old days!
