You can find them a whole lot cheaper on E Bay. I found them for my 08 FXSTC for $160. Just do a search by part number.

I'd have to agree for the most part. It's generally cheaper to buy new chrome from Harley than it is to send it off and get it re-chromed.

Having said that, I'll also say, do some research. If you can find a quality chromer and get the forks rechromed for about the same price as new, go for it.

The problem with buying new chrome from Harley is that, in general, HD chrome parts are of inferior quality. So, while it may be cheaper than having the parts rechromed, if you buy from Harley you end up with the same crappy chrome (which they only warranty for 90 days) that you had before and you'll end up having to replace it again in a few years.

I have a set of Harley drag bars on my bike and I'm seriously thinking about rechroming them instead of replacing.

I don't personally find Harley chromed parts to be inferior. I have always had great luck with Harley chrome compared to aftermarket. I agree though, that custom show chrome is a superior product but it will cost you, and show chrome, although top notch, is just that. Show chrome. Scratches real easy.

The tubes will be Showa no matter what colour they are so I can't see how you'd get lower quality - most HD bars are stainless rather than chrome which would explain why they dont look like qualtity chrome.

Check Ebay. My son, brother in law and I all got original harley fork lowers on Ebay for about half price compared to any dealers. There are also several chrome shops in California that will take yours in trade and give you a set of chromed ones. Average price is around $150 or so. Many of these shops sell on Ebay and will list their address and phone number so can deal with them directly.

These chrome sliders from Harley were put on back in 99 and still look like new. Not a speck or spot on them anywhere and clean right up with a little lemon Pledge.
