Hi - Need to adjust the position of one of the fog lights on my Heritage Classic. Took turn signal loose and trim ring off fog light. Notice the lights are adjusted by clamping down onto a "domed" washer. Can see how to adjust by slipping a deep socket up into turn signal bracket... loosen nut... re-position fog light... tighten nut. All easy enough except the 12v power for the fog light goes down through the middle off the nut you need to slip the socket on. Can't get any wrench I have up in there... could cut a slot in the side of a deep socket... but that ain't fun.
Any suggestions other than the obvious clip the wire & pull it back through the hole... adjust the light then run the wire back through and splice to repair? Can female spade connector for fog light be removed and re-installed somehow?
I hope there's something super easy I'm missin' here. Wouldn't be the first time.
Thanks in advance for any instructions or suggestions.
dave, if you can, use a mechanical connector to re join them, twist/tape not so good, can/will corrode/come apart, lossen up
the cripm type
you can get a kit with connectors and a stripper, crimper in any autoparts store for less then 20.00
what i did, wuz used the round pin type connectors. there is a male and female end
crimp one on ea end, then put them together, if you ever need to take it apart for adj again,
just un plug it
Thanks again Acid - Used crimp-on bullet connectors - still couldn't find some small enough to pull back through the hole for future adjustment... maybe I'll never have to go through that again anyways.
BTW - hope your recent "small crash" wasn't bad and ya didn't mess up yourself or that sweet lookin' bike too much.
ShortyReb is right. The socket is called a flare nut socket and Snap--On has it. One socket is still about $30-35. Can't remember what the set is priced at.
Just had a loose fog light after the dealer installed it. The wire is a problem so I took it back to the dealer and they had a socket with a slot cut into it so it would slip over the wire. You have the right idea, maybe a dealer will tighten and reposition it for you.
