Ignition/Tuner/ECM/Fuel InjectionNeed advice on ignition issues? Questions about a tuner? Have questions about a EFI calibration or Fuel Injection? Tips on Engine Diagnostics, how to get codes, and what they mean. Find your answers here.
I apologize in advance for the newbie question but I'm new to the fuel management world and a lot of this is over my head. I did read through 50 or so pages to gather as much info as possible.
In 10 days I will be picking up my 2012 Sportster 48 and will be upgrading the pipes and air cleaner right away.
I'm looking for the best system to make sure my bike runs smooth and reliable after the mods. The PV looks like an incredible device but how difficult will it be to program my bike to run smooth and rich after the mods?
I'm sure I wont get into the level of tuning many of you are. I just want to prevent any overheating, sputtering, backfiring, etc.
Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated
thanks
steve
My best advice to you is to call fuelmoto.usa and buy your PV from them. All you have to do is call tell them what your bike has and they will happily send you a new map every time you change your set up.
Added bonus to you is there is new PV software coming soon which will simplify the whole data logging process.

Thanks for the help. I just emailed Jamie to purchase it from them. I've heard nothing but great things about FuelMoto so far
WOW, this thread is a wealth of information and at the same time makes me realize just how ignorant I am with this tuning stuff. Nevertheless, following all the recommendations, I too called FuelMoto, spoke with Brian, and ordered a PV. It should arrive Saturday and i am stoked to see what the Slim will run like after the PV FM tune and the AN BS Stage 1 with Rush 2.0 slip-ons.
I'm planning on installing a set of Andrews 48H cams in my 2012 FXDC in the near future. I have already contacted Jamie about a map and he said he didn't have anything for that particular cam and suggested that I contact Dynojet directly. I have sent an email to them, but figured I would cover all the bases and check the forum members to see if anyone has a tune that I could get started with. The bike has the 96" motor and is stock with the exception of a Rinehart 2/1 exhaust, SE air cleaner with a K&N filter element and of course the Powervision as the tuner. Any help would be appreciated.

Seriously considering cams myself, same situation I would want a good base map to start with, and the cams I am looking at, made by Dave Mackie Engineering arent very popular. I am thinking this may be a problem since no tunners in my area work with Powervision. Wondering if it might be a better idea to choose a cam that Fuelmoto works with often, like Woods so I could get a better map to start, and avoid a lot of headaches.
how about an example... dont want to mess things up...Iclick.. what u think ?
I get an occasional "false knock" event on the front cyl. around 2500rpm @ 60KPA. If I retard timing it still knocks regardless of how much timing I pull out, so I ignore the knock report in that location.
If you want to check yours, just pull 5° out (lower value by 5) in the offending area and see if it recurs. If it doesn't recur or looks to decrease in intensity it likely isn't false, so put it back where it was and let PV Tune get rid of it in the tuning process.

thanks ICLICK.. re-loaded the FM orginal MAP and will run basic log till i see VE's dont change much,, then i will re-adjust AFR from 14.4 in 20MAP so i get rid of popping and then try the timing adjustments... to what i understand, if i have AFR's less the 14.4 ex 13.5 and using Basic tunning with the PV, i maybe messing up the VE tables as to what i read from JD's PV tuning V1 sheet. Am I mistaken ?
How are you guys data logging spark knock? When I open the log tuner and go through the steps and hit calc tune I see spark hit counts but never anything in the spark knock table. Also I never seem to feel or hear any knocking but if I have the front and rear knock counter on the gauges I will see the occasionally.
