I am interested in the Power Commander and other systems. I'd liek to hear from those of you who have had good/bad experiences. Suggestions?? I own a 2005 FLSTSC w. Stage I airkit, fishtail pipes w/ Thunder Monster baffles. Trying to get rid of some or all of the popping. Plugs had 7300 miles and were running hot. Front had too much white, rear was glazed.
I have an 05 Fatboy with V & H Bigshots and Thunder Monsters. Had Power Commander installed and dynoed. No popping whatsoever on decel! Runs great. Roughly 82hp and 85 fp torque.
Good luck with your decision. Guy that did the dyno likes the PCIII because of the tuning capabilities.
I spoke with the folks at Big City about Thunder Monsters and they were very helpful. I put on the 16 ga. dbl. brl. shotgun w/ SE and EFI map. Love the looks of the pipes, they are actually the same as V&H but come with the "quiet" baffles. I would like a little more sound, and the Thunder Monsters sound like just the ticket. One thing I am a little unsure of is the the tech at Big City told me that I would not need another map or download after I install the Thunder Monsters. They suggested I buy a type of tuner (can't remember name, not Power Commander) that doesn't need dyno, as they indicated that I may want to richen the mix a little afterwards. Any thoughts on this or anything else re: Thunder Monsters would be greatly appreciated. Thx. BTW, I have a 2005 Deluxe and absolutely love it.
I just installed my new Revtech Stealth DFO to my bike. Seems like a nice unit. Install took less than an hour. The first adjustment you do to is to set the "mixture" by turning a small pot with a screwdriver. They tell you to set the engine at 1800rpm's then turn the screw for the highest idle. I gained 400rpm and the engine sounded better, smoother, etc. Going out for a test run to set everything else. No backfires or pops in the driveway when the other adjustments were set to the recommended default positions.
Thanks for the link. Techlusion is the device Big City mentioned. In your experience, how are dealers with honoring warranty as one adds more "stuff"? Thanks again.
That's the beauty of the Revtech/Techlusion device. It is transparent to the ECM. My bike has a 7 year warranty and I don't want to do anything to jeopardize that 5 or 6 years down the road.........There is no download for a CVO bike so no worries there. It came with the Stage 1 A/C. All I have to do is swap the stock mufflers back on and lift up the fuel tank, unplug the harnesses for the DFO and my bike is 100% showroom stock.
I ran the bike last night. Runs well with the DFO. I used the recommended settings and the bike doesn't backfire any more. Can't say that it will wheelie or anything now but I feel a lot safer knowing it's not gonna melt down. I may pull the seat and fine tune it a bit more for some additional power but I want to see what kind of mileage I'm getting on the current settings. I checked last night on the fill up and I was getting 36mpg all around mileage. I hope it doesn't get too much lower. Good luck.
Thanks again for the input. I, too, have extended warranty, and do not want to jeopordize it. One last question: how "loud" are the thundermonsters? I know its a subjective question, but compared to your stock set-up (V&H), how much louder are they? BTW, nice looking ride.
