They wanted somewhere in the area of $1k for the 20K service that includes repacking the neck bearings. My indie about pee'd his britches when I told him. He was laughing that hard.
This is what scares me and keeps me from even considering a trade. With my bad knees, I would have trouble getting down to inspect or look for issues like this. Looks like I'm sticking with the 103 for a while.
Agree. just love my '07 RK 103 inch. Love the shake, love the rumble, love the shifter clunk, love that I can change plugs without pulling the tank, love that it's dry as a bone, love that it's air cooled, love that it hauls *** with a Stage 1, on and on.
These new M8's look like an engineering nightmare with so much that can go wrong like valves that "never need adjusting" yet aren't hydraulic. Can't wait to see how these things start self destructing at around 50k miles.

Well go post over in the dinosaur section then - geez!
Why do people who don't own something so eager to pile on people that do? I don't get it . . .
I've had an 80 Shovel, an 03, 05 and 11 Twin Cam - of all of them, only the 03 was worth a damn. BUT - I don't wish you ill and post up that I wish your bike will self destruct at any point.
I've said it here and elsewhere. Having ridden several at various dealerships around the D-FW area, I do like the new engine's HP/Torque output. Much like my C7 Z06, it is smooth under acceleration. New clutch a little stiff ? Yah, betting that will go away over time as things break in. Is the new front end trick ? You bet. Like night and day. Ditto the new rear adjustables. My biggest beef is that after all the hype about how many miles of pre production testing the new M8 went through, why then are we being subjected to some of these issues. We should not be hearing about metal particles causing oil pump failures. Should that have not shown up pre production ? I'd think so ! Or, the oil seepage issues in the area of the hose clamps ? Or, O rings not being seated correctly ? Not ........ Damn it, the MoCo needs to quit using a small group of what we would consider from the ground up, hand built special purpose engines for the endurance testing. And, quit doing it in the lab. Take a bunch of randomly built production line engines and run the dog snot out of them. Just as we do in the real world. Ride safe y'all. Happy and safe holidays.

that would boost confidence..it does appear there are some QC issues that coulda' shoulda' been discovered..but for the most part that's true everywhere and are isolated

Agree. The C7 Corvette is a shining example of this. None of us wants to get stranded though. Near home, not a biggie. However, had this occurred in the middle of my ride through Death Valley last year or worse, on top of Beartooth pass ? I'd have been one pissed off pound puppy ! I am just under 20 k now on an 8 month old Tri Glide. My scoot is not a weekend only, fly the colors ride .......

yup, the shift linkage thing bit me..5000 miles on my 2015 RK on a hot day in the Oregon desert in the middle of nowhere, poor cell phone service and closet dealership 100 miles away..got lucky and was able to get it fixed but it's one of those things that has stranded other members in our HOG Chapter
