We have been asked a few times about the M8s smoking and what causes this. We did see excessive smoke when we changed out exhaust initially, but found it to be the cold start feature combined with a lack of tune. When started in cold weather without the engine temp getting above 200F it will tend to smoke quite a bit if you really get on the throttle, but once the engine temp reaches 200 and the idle sets in at normal, the smoke issue disappears right away. We were able to safely pull almost all of the smoke out with a proper tune using a Powervision, but thought I'd share in case anyone questioned that as well.

Have there been a lot of M8s smoking?
I haven't seen any smoke. Mine hasn't and I've been riding it to work (short 3 miles to work) down as low as 35 degrees.
All the twin cam problems even after Harley boasted that they logged 2 million miles and 12,600 dyno hours. No mention at all of any bearing failures, broken tensioners or crank run out. Makes you wonder what kind of testing is done under real riding conditions or is it performed in a controlled environment lab.
I can guarantee your jaw will drop after knowing...........................

Yes, you read that right, found on CL. Love it & matches good on the new M8.
Wow... huge win for you. That tour pak looks amazing on your bike. I have the '17 black denim RGS and have been using a crappy aftermarket (paint matched) tour pak that I used on my '12 SG. It served it's purpose, but I'm resigning myself to buying a new HD chopped tour pak for the new bike. But at $800+ new from the dealer, the prospect of saving almost $700 would be music to my ears too. Ride in good health, keep it no-so-shiny side up and ride it like you stole it!

Thank you, and yes, a huge win, been lucky finding and scavenging parts so far.
Bro, don't worry about how that tour pak looks, I got a denim black as well. I used to ride with un-matched/missing parts fairing lowers, a tour pak I found for $80.00 that rattled all around and used cotter pins to hold the opening latches, Kuryakyn tour bags on a tour pak mount. I didn't like the way it looks at the time, but all served it's purpose, they were practical and is what matters.
Here in Texas tour paks pop for sale more often than not for some reason. With that said, be patient, the right deal will come for you.
P.S.) Your signature series seat set shows delivered, enjoy it!!
=)
Un-matched lowers, tour pak mount.
Orange tour pak, rattled all around, didn't fit but made do.
Kuryakyn bags on tour pak mount. They didn't fit the backrest so l used ratchet straps to hold in place. 😁😁😁

My problem is that my Ultra Limited with 500 miles on the M8 is sitting in the dealership where I purchased it with the down tube push rod already leaking oil! I thought it may be an isolated manufacturing issue, but the service coordinator slipped it out that it would take a while to get the new O-Rings since HD is backordered on them! What??!!

That is easy, tell them you want adjustable pushrods put in for your inconvenience. In the long run it will be cheaper for them anyway as they have to pull the pushrods out to replace the pushrod tube orings. A huge job compared to swapping out to adjustable pushrods.

I'm patient, but you really did find a Wonka's golden ticket. You do realize that new, that H-D Premium Leather Tour-Pak goes for $1400-$1500, don't you? Relish in your victory young Sire, and proudly hold your banner high in victory.
Well, back from a nice 600 mile ride but the oil leak is back again. I've attached a couple pics this time. Twice replaced o-rings, once I was told the breather tube was pinched, so back for number four trip to the dealer with 4,400 miles. So, I've seen several posts and pics that seem similar, but not definitive cause yet. One post indicated rocker bolts stretching with 120 inches of torque. Any other thoughts I've missed before I drop the bike off with with a mandate?
The bases on both push rod tubes are wet as it the entire bottom of the air cleaner.
Bought the M8 Road Glide Special a few weeks ago in that green gold or whatever they call it. It's been raining alot in NY so I only put about 200 miles on the bike so far. I have to say Harley really did a great job. I had previously bought new a Road King FLHRC in 2011 with the 103 and ABS, but the 2017 M8 is just on a whole other level. I had the dealer change the Handlebars and put on the Chizeled Handlebars and also install the stage 2 BOOM. I really like the bike, I've been commuting to work on it every day about 25 miles a day not a'lot the only complaint is even with the stage 2 BOOM upgrade the radio sound is terrible. I put on Rineharts 4" for a week and then took them off, it just made the bike to loud and the stereo completely unusable. So if anyone is interested in a new pair of 4" Rinharts for the 2017 touring let me know, i put about 100 miles on the bike before i took them off, the Stock Pipes actually sound really good. The only other thing I could say is, it took me about a week to get use to the hydraulic clutch and understanding there is no adjustment, so it is what is it.
