Jeez, you guys are way to sensitive. The oil pump problems are not just in this thread or just on this forum. It would appear to me that this is very
typical of first year new model of any brand. It will be sorted out, just relax. All I said was, I think I will wait till they do.

I won't be buying a nother bike till the MoCo comes out with a LowRider S M8
I hope that by the , as you say... The teething issues have all gone bye bye.
But to rebuttal your comment, I'd might like you to consider that the issues, with most being oil leaks and oil lights are only effecting a smaller quantity of these new engines.
Maybe there should be a thread here listing all the owner with issues and no issues? Maybe a pole would be nice?

"..are not just in this thread or just on this forum..."

Care to share where else? I've seen a couple mentioned over on Harley Tech Talk - both of them are duplicates posted here. There's been one report over on the vtwin forum and from reading it might've been posted here as well. I haven't seen any posted on streetglide forum.

I tend to trust the talk over on Harley Tech talk a lot. They seem to have come to the conclusion that even among the reported problems, the oil pump themselves weren't the root cause. Foreign objects loose in the cam chest became dislodged and fouled an oil pump in a very early series of production.

Some of the clamps on the hoses leading to the oil coolers were either subpar or installed badly.

There's been one documented case of the wrong oil pump installed on the production line.

So, mind sharing what you've heard different?

Good info, thanks. That would be great if it was just a few early ones. But how do we know? This motor has been out for about a year? Not sure. I was at my local Harley dealer last week looking at one and asked the sales guy about any problems with the new motor. He says he has not heard of any. So we start up the one he wants to demo. It blows out blue smoke, so he says he has not seen that before. Starts another one and it blows out blue smoke, he stops after 3. All smoke. Tech Talk have any ideas on that? He then goes to his computer and googles m8 problems. As I start to read down the list, he walks away and I get to speak to his manager. The point is again, they all have teething problems, it would be nice if HD would send maybe a memo to all the dealers to address some. Maybe something like, we had this or that, but it was a vendor issue and now resolved. Instead I get the deer in the headlights look when I ask anything like this. Hopefully whatever it is or is not, will be revolved and I would love to go pick one up.

Well do what you want but "The point is again, they all have teething problems." is just flat out false. And you can't google "m8 zero problems" because people that don't have problems with their bikes aren't likely to be vocal.

You could probably very easily (and logically) say "Hey, its a first model year, I'm gonna stay away just cause I don't want to bet my 20 grand on that" That's fine. But to say "I'm staying away because they all have oil problems" or "They all have problems, that's a fact" is just hyperbole like SWT said a few posts back.

Be honest with yourself and others.

It's your money not mine, do with it as you will. Just don't expect people to read ridiculous statements they know are false and then complain when they're reactions to that seem too "sensitive" to you.

The blue smoke is likely left over assembly lube.. The RK I test rode did it when they rolled it out for me to ride. The one I bought didn't but it had 26 miles on it when it was delivered.

my guess/opinion is that the odds are heavily lopsided in favor of getting a good one, sure glad i didn't hold off on the first year mis-perception paranoia

Forums are never a complete science in gathering fault metrics - unless it's just really obvious, like everyone is having the same issue. But if not everyone is, I always leave a little room for those people who don't post their issues or could post and just don't want to hear the drama. For instance, I know of two early engine replacements last year, and 3 oil pump issues just this spring - all local to one dealership. Personally, my M8 is suffering from something rattling and screeching in the forward head during high RPMs (prob a rocker), and the oil light came on just one time months ago. It was checked out and as you know, if the tech cannot hear or see the issue, they won't break the motor down to verify. Also had a motor mount replaced that was sheared but that was in plain sight.

So I wait... until it does something on it's own - if anything. Guess I'll post then when I know something solid - which I believe many people do.
Great engine besides all that BTW. Runs better every day although at high RPM it feels like I'm riding a weed wacker - hand/feet numbing vibration.
Regardless... Hope I have no issues on my way to Sturgis cause I'm going to be riding it long and hard. "That's what she said."

So, I had one of the first bike with Oil pressure problems, just 30 miles out. I picked my Tri Glide up within 4 hours of the dealer receiving it in late August. Well long story short, new oil pump and it then happened again @ 750 miles. New Bike to replace it this week. in 10 miles I had Glycol all over my driveway as it spat it out after a short ride. Bike is in the dealer with both rads stripped down trying to find the issues...
