Hang on a minute,
Isnt research and development what the moco does when they design and build and test before they put the engines in new bikes on the market. Or is R&D what you guys are doing with ya failing engines?
Wiz
Ha! Good one!
The MoCo's customers are the "beta-testers" for any new design. Why should they go to the expense of actually thoroughly testing their newest-crap-designs when there are tons of folks ready and more than willing to shell out large sums of money for the privilege?
****, can ya imagine how much these newly-designed bikes would cost if they were actually thoroughly tested and the design flaws identified and fixed BEFORE they were released? My god! It would be astronomical!!
Helluva way to do things, if ya ask me.

First off not a motor guy... Have 1800mi on my streetglide and noticed a fairly loud knock while riding. Took it in to have the dealer look at at and haven't seen the bike since. Going on 5 wks and the dealer claims the motor had loose bolts internally causing failure. Harley corp has been involved with the process of trail and error having the dealer test, record and report. The decision is now to replace cylinders, pistons, oil pan and other parts. Essentially a new motor with out putting in new moto. Super frustrating process! New to the forum and lots to read but has anyone else reported such issues?
I feel for you and this would probably turn me against HD ! Well, it's not cancer so I suppose we have to put all this in perspective !

If it were a Twin Cam, I'd suspect the compensator. Since it's an M8, God only knows!
I sure as hell wouldn't settle for what they're offering. At the very least, a complete new motor, but I'd be demanding a new bike.
If your state has a lemon law, threaten 'em with that. I'm pretty sure that them having the bike that long and still having no actual idea what's wrong with it would qualify in most states.
What "loose bolts" is he talking about? Sounds like typical, clueless dealership BS to me.
So whats wiping out the oil pumps?
Is this happening with stock motors or on Stage 1 or 2 kits.
Is the crank is twisting?
BTW, what the hell is this, a Counter balance?!?
Well, I'm having my oil pump replaced right now under warranty. Bone stock engine, not one modification or upgrade. I had the 1st version of the oil pump in my bike, which had a January 2017 build date. They are swapping in a revision 3 oil pump and parts. Gonna be driving my truck for a little bit

I would be interested to know if you have a twin-cooled bike or an oil cooled bike?
Also, what symptoms were you experiencing when your oil pump troubles started?
Different colors, same defects and problems, it seems.
In other words, business as usual at the good ol' MoCo.
Are you a pessimist ? Most of the riders I have spoken to or riders on the forum who have driven a 2018 were very impressed with the ride, power and they expressed that the total experience on a 2018 model was much improved ! I understand that there is a problem with the trans migration fluid on a few of the models ( not Softails) but I assume this problem will be worked out . I have never been a Harley rider/owner but very impressed with the Fat Boy and will take delivery in April 2018 !
