There was an ACR valve for the twin cams...

on the M8 its p/n 18400073

Just me but I've never seen the HD compression release valve go bad on a twin cam - I've heard about it once or twice but never run into it myself. I have had problems with the HD battery going bad when it gets colder. Ive seen a couple go bad in the cold even if they've been garaged and on a tender every single night... just bad luck of the draw I guess.

At a M8 workshop l attended at a harley dealer Saturday one of the techs mentioned that MOCO had upped the cold cranking amps on there batteries. They also said the engines were designed to turn over twice before starting in order for the lifters to be pumped up.

Guessin I should have stated that an ACR valve can be installed. PITA and expensive less you’re a DIY’er
Now on the cold weather amperage bump on the m8 batteries, didn’t know a out that.

I'm thinking its standard on the M8s - at least my parts manual says its common to all the 2017 tourers.

You're not wrong...

ACRs have been standard since the introduction of the TC103 as an option (in 2011).
The TC103 which became standard in 2012, the HO103 (2014), and M8 (2017) also have them standard.

OP's problem sounds like a weak battery. Normally shows up in cold conditions.

One point of order... my 2010 Limited had the 103 with ACR's.

Good catch. Yep forgot those. First year for the "Limited" and the TC103. Back when the Limited was more... well unique and more like a CVO Jr.

Basically, for the standard/limited bikes, ACRs were introduced with the TC103.
CVO's had them since 2007 with the introduction of the 110 but not in the CVO103 in years past - probably because of the shorter stroke.

Not an expert on CVOs but the early pre-2007 CVOs had same 4 3/8 stroke as the current twincams.. IIRC they ran the CVO head which was 90 to 92 ccs to get the cr lower. I think they did use the SE255 cam but could be wrong.

Yeah, you're right. I remember there being some difference and I was thinking about thinking the 88/95 crank for some reason.
In 07 they basically put a variation of the CVO103 crank into the TC96.

I'm not sure what cam came with the CVO103, it was small ended though (small bearing).
