AFAIK, you're right. The cable models have an oil slinger on the end of the clutch push rod and the hydraulic models don't.

Probably saved the MoCo all of 50-cents/bike to create this problem that could end up costing 'em a fortune in warranty repairs and lost sales.

Typical MoCo ops, for sure.

Thanks for update ! You make me feel better ! This Fat Boy will be my last bike and I have never owned a Harley and would like just one ! I use to travel all over the USA but that was on Honda's but my travel now will be shorter and no long distance. As someone posted, " Everyone dies, but not everyone lives ! " Not a whole lot of years ahead of me but I want to keep living to the end !

Amen to that philosophy, Brother! Couldn't have said it better myself.

I understand that there is a problem with the trans migration fluid on a few of the models ( not Softails) but I assume this problem will be worked out . I have never been a Harley rider/owner but very impressed with the Fat Boy and will take delivery in April 2018 !
If you have never ridden or owned a Harley, and you are impressed with the new softail enough to purchase, then it seems Harley is headed in the right direction. Attracting new riders from other brands is what will keep them in business. Enjoy your ride!

Ive come back to review this thread ..

Yeah .. umm ...Im going to have to go with jpooch00 on alot of what he is saying. I've have problems with a 2016 and this 2017.
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/milwa...-m8-clank.html
and
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/new-r...-troubles.html

My personal experience .. Ive had problems with the mechanics of 2 ..yeah thats 2 Ultras. This M8 did give me a few months of trouble free riding with the first oil light showing up 5 months after ownership. I have had issues with HD service. The oil sensor was just replaced. I needed to change dealerships and even then they were dragging their feet with the repair. I had to move the financing off of Eagle mark because of the way they were applying extra principle.

This is the kind of chance I gave Harley ..

I traded my 12 WIng on the 2016 Ultra... I traded that 2016 Ultra on a 2016 Wing. I just wanted to ride the Ultra and figured I got a lemon. I traded my 2016 Wing back in on the 2017. Here I am today.

I knew this going in, I dont think Harley is moving along in anyway when we really look at their bikes. All should have tpms. All should have a kick stand down kill switch. Just two examples.

As I said before. The M8 technology is not a technological breakthrough by any means, again my 02 vtx is COMPLETELY water cooled. ... and even with this common technology ... still Harley clearly couldnt get it right. There are enough of us having problems to prove that. A few odd ball issues I could see but there are many common issues. The tranny fluid thing, the oil sensor, the oil pump, the switch housing ... I might be leaving a few out.

Ive had the mechanical issues I already mentioned ... service issues ... finance issues .. with that said ...

Ill be washing it and waxing the Ultra tonight after I get off now that at least up until this point Im not receiving oil lights. Ill take pictures and put it up on every resource I can find to sell at my payoff and the price will decrease as the payoff decreses. While it is up I will also try to negotiate a trade to something else. I know a few in the industry and have been told that no one wants them so I might have to keep it. This isnt unfounded. I talked to the placed where I traded the 2016 Ultra. He said he dont want any more Harleys and "yours is still sitting on the floor!" If I have to keep it ... I have to keep it .. eventually it will go and it WILL be my last Harley product.

I will being doing likewise this spring. With low oil pressure, metal shavings, bad oil pumps, sump issues, trans migration issues, I have had enough. Especially when HD has no answers or fixes. I simply do not trust this bike anymore.
