Anybody having issues with their tour pack squeaking at idle on your 2014 Ultra or Limited? Mine (Limited) started around 2000 miles. Dealer replaced the hinge. With a little over 6000 on the clock, it's squeaking again.
Ha, funny you should mention that. I had squeaking from the start. Never really mattered all that much but I tried to track it down with little luck. One day I was riding and put my hand on the latch and it stopped. When I got home I cut a very thin strip (less than 1/8") off a piece of weatherstripping. The kind from Lowes that's used around door or window frames. Gray in color, maybe a 1/8" thick. It has an adhesive backing so I pulled off the backing tape and attached it on the very top edge of the tourpak latch, where the chrome latching cap mechanism clamps down on it when secured. No more squeak so a quick, simple fix for me. Others may have a different area causing it but for me, that's where it was.
Yeah, found it yesterday.Held latch squeaking stopped.Cut two small pieces of innertube and dropped them in lower latch square that catches upper pins.
No more squeak!!
While the fixes mentioned may be simple and offer a path of least resistance when it comes to the dealer, a $30k bike shouldn't have squeaks like that, esp. after my hinge has already been replaced once. Hell, I can hear the squeak when I have ear plugs in. I'm glad to hear it's not just me. I guess now I need to decide if it's worth more pursuit at the dealer or just do the same as has been mentioned here. Thanks guys!
Can't stand the squeak any longer so I decided to apply some of my own ingenuity to resolve the problem. Started with a few layers of duck tape on the flat section on the lower part of the hinge. I then added two layers of thin adhesive craft foam paper. No more squeak.
