Love my 2014 CVO RK. None of the RK screens lock, you can I believe buy an aftermarket gizmo to lock them, but then they are not quick release. I find the screen fine, although you are not in an air pocket, it doesn't cause buffeting, well not like my Heritage screen did. Even after cutting the screen down, the wind would still make my shades vibrate on my nose
There have been a lot of posts regarding the windshield, mainly the look of it. I haven't seen any that mentioned it vibrating until Thor183. I'm one of the odd ones that actually likes the windshield, both the look and the function. Never noticed any vibration or any movement at all - and best of all no buffeting. There may just be something wrong with the windshield or the mounting if it's moving.
I'm still considering what to do about the handlebars. I'd rather not have to change out the hydraulic lines to get them taller. Has anyone tried just adding short risers to the stock bar on the CVO RK?
I took the bike out again today and played with the vent and it seems like I found a good combination. I could definitely tell a difference for when the vent is closed, much my head buffeting. I think if the screen was another two inches taller it would be perfect but I can be happy with it. The vibration I experienced before is gone. The bike now only has 114 miles on it some maybe the windshield seated in place better after a few miles. (Still breaking it in)
I ended up buying a better pair of the Harley Davidson Wiley X transition sunglasses with the wind gasket so now the windshield combined with the new shades seemed to eliminate my concerns from the other day.
New to the forum, though a HD owner of several bikes for 15 years now. Congrats to all who purchased the '14 CVO RK. I've had my Tribal Orange for 8+ Months now, though only about 1500 miles. Previous I had an '07 CVO RK, then a 11 CVO RG Ultra. (Hooked on CVO's.....if you couldn't tell)
I'll post some pix soon. FYI - mods i've made/will make.
Immediately put on slip-ons. Jackpot's are fantastic. Past bikes had Vance&Hines. Jackpot's have a great deep throaty sound for those who want a great sound on load and can be quieter in cruise mode. For me the 110 motor is enough so i don't need full replacements or the cat removed....for HP anyway.
Seat - Stock is horrible for anything over an hour. Starting with a Sundowner as i've used in the past. Unfortunately the NEW (14) Sundowner seems to be much higher. I'll try and live with that as i'm 6'0" anyway. I absolutely need a Driver Backrest so i went that route. I've hear Mustang's are great. May try that is Sundowner doesn't work. (As in the past I keep 2 sets of seats, sissy bars, luggage and windshield and swap out for short vs. long rides. Cheaper than having 2 bikes)
Ride seems to be a bit harsher than my past bikes. Seat? Wheels? Suspension? Starting with the seat mentioned above. Already big improvement. I noticed the '14s have a 19" front and my past CVO's had 18's. hmmmm. Last effort would be to swap out the 12" rear Harley shocks for Progressive 944's. Heard good things.
Windshield - hate it. Getting taller vented one, especially since i have the higher seat now. Always hated the small CVO RK windshields. Personal Preference !
Lastly, putting on the 4-point docking system for sissy bar and luggage rack. Curious that HD doesn't make a Black Chrome version to match the bike. Taking it locally to have power coated as ALL other pieces will be Black Chrome.
Welcome to the forum. I love the look of the seat but it isn't great by any stretch. The mustang seemed to get some good reviews in another thread in the touring section.
Attaching pix with the Sundowner seat, Ventilated windshield and Stealth rack. Seats a 'little' big for the bike, but i'll take that tradeoff for longer trips. (driver backrest still on order)
