I'm about to be 'gifted' a Super E from a friend that's getting a complete new top end for his ride. Just in time, I'm getting kinda tired of the temperamental/inconsistent Keihin. The Super E is currently jetted for his 88" TC. What jets do you guys recommend for my shovel: '79 FXEF 80", 8.5:1 compression (previous owner claims 9:1), Andrews J cam, Paughco 2-1 exhaust.
Side note: Today i put 60 miles on her since the engine rebuild and getting the rear brake issue resolved. I'm really liking the strong/smooth pull I'm getting at lower/mid range with the Andrews J grind.
are you at altitude?? whats the jetting as is? i used the S&S site.....if your at altitude probably best to purchase a main jet just a bit leaner than stock ...then its a case of suck it and see https://www.sscycle.com/tech-info/in...rb-quick-guide
295 low speed = 70 main - turn the acc pump off set mix screw at idle speed - ride if with slow up throttle in 3 rd gear and run it out if its smooth - start at 1 1/2 turns out on the acc pump stop when NO hesitation
this is if the carb is clean and working correctly
Update: was having issues finding the correct jets that didn't pop, cough, choke, fart or sneeze. Tried everything from .068 thru .076 (main) and .028 thru .033 (pilot/intermediate). Got everything from 'too lean' and 'too rich', but the popping, coughing, choking, farting and sneezing continued. So i called my friend that gave me the carb (directly off his TC because he's going with CV). Now he tells me it sat for 3 years and he didn't rebuild it before putting it on his bike and he was having the same problem.
In the process of a complete teardown and cleaning of the carb I found a crack in the float bowl. Not sure if this was existing or if i did it. Too long of a mounting bolt. Just can't believe i didn't notice it as many times as i removed the bowl
2 things -- the bottom manifold bolt is too long or the spacer was not added
and your intake is suspect as one jet change will change the mix and your 5 away 00 don't care is seems ok its not
$150 for super E float bowl?
Anyway, she's back on the road with same issue and now i realize I've been chasing my tail on this one. I made the mistake of making 2 changes at the same time, swapping carbs and adding a tachometer. My problem is electrical. It slapped me in the face yesterday when i took her for a ride after getting the carb back together. The popping and farting corresponds with the light in the tach flickering. I must have done something wrong, or made a bad connection, when i installed the tach.
