Default Changing your own oil....

Hello guys,
How hard is it to change your own oil in a Deuce? I work on high performance boats with 1300hp motors but am scared to death to screw something up my bike!!! I'm just a freek I guess!

Thanks,
John

its a piece of cake.. just ride the bike for 10 mins to get it warmed up and then drain the oil
the oil drain is on the same side as the chrome oil reserve and right under the swingarm frame..
then change the filter and u are done...add 3 qts of oil and run it and then check it again to see if you need a little more...ck the oil with it on the sidestand...dont overfill it...

rogue chopper sells a scavenger kit that allows You to actually purge all of the oil from the engine after draining the oil tank. Just draining the tank leaves about 22 oz. of old oil in the system.

is there not a plug on the bottom of the engine to drain the remaining amount of oil that is not drained when you pull the plug on the oil tank? I'd like to do my own changes also but directions in the book confuse me a little

"is there not a plug on the bottom of the engine to drain the remaining amount "

Yes there is... but I've talked to several HD mech's and they suggest NOT removing the plug at the bottom of the engine for routine oil changes...(only if oil is contaminated).
The reason being the threads in the metal are "weaker" there and multiple loosening and tightening will eventually lead to oil leaks. Only about 8-10 oz. of oil to be drained from there.

There is another good reason for not draining the oil from the bottom. Taking that oil out will deprive the scavenge side of the pump of any oil at all for the first few minutes of operation.
IMHO its far better tohave a little old oil in therethan no oil at all. Running any kind of machinery without lubrication isjust asking forthe kind of expensive trouble I personally don't want any part of.
