Default Engine shut down briefly on Hwy..

Rode approximately 250 miles today to run an errand in another city...

I was cruising around 85-90 mph with the speedo/gas range displaying 30 miles till empty. All of a sudden the bike went into a quick limp/shut down mode. I slowed down to 60-65 and the bike seemed to run just fine.

Filled up the tank with 4.65 gallons/5.0 gallons (full tank) and back to 85-90 mph, w/o any hiccups.

Do these bikes all do this when that low on gas? I only had .35 gallons left when the bike acted up...

Never happened to me b/4.

TIA/B

That`s possible. However, this may be the beginning of something else. Not knowing what year/model of your bike, I can only give my experience with my sig bike. I bought the bike used, and less than a year afterward, it started cutting out occasionally, too. This increased in frequency until it quit altogether. What I found was that the previous owner had "piggybacked" a tuner atop of the ECM. The ECM is mounted beneath the seat with a plastic frame having tabs on the sides of it, which fit precisely into a square hole of the rear fender. It was made only to support the factory ECM, and nothing else. The tuner placed atop the ECM imposed a steady push against the tabs supporting the plastic frame holding the ECM. Gradually, the constant pressure on the tabs caused them to give way, and both the tuner and ECM fell into the rotating rear wheel. I know, this is a stretch, but it wouldn`t hurt to pull your seat and check this out......

You need to slow down and enjoy the ride.

Don't run the fuel level so low! .35 gallons remaining probably bounced around the bottom of the tank not allowing for a consistent delivery.

^^^ You could be on to something. I have a FP3 tuner, and I changed seats b/4 the ride. Came home and put the stock seat back on. The tuner was smashed by the new seat...

^^^ I usually do, but that was keeping up with traffic today...
I thought the fast speeds, which I usually don't hit, caused the intermittent shut down...

Running it that low you might've picked up something out of the bottom of the tank other than gasoline. Or, more likely, it sucked in a little air. I try to never run mine low enough to turn on the low fuel light. Ditto for my cars. It's just an expensive repair waiting to happen.

Mine used to cut out intermittently (no limp mode though), this was resolved by replacing the battery!

I have a Li-ion battery in there now, a lot smaller and lighter, created some space between the seat and the battery too...

I don't think the OP was looking for your opinion on his speed, grandpa.

I would assume it was due to the low fuel level...if it never happens again you know that was it...I ran mine down to around .8 left because I was trying to calculate my mileage an I noticed the fuel pump noise was louder an since the gas around it keeps it cool I won't do it again, at least not on purpose.
