From my touring section post: Had to go back and check since my memory failed me as I was typing last night.
3/8-16 is the thread size. The frame is only 3/8 thick where the peg bolt goes through, so you don't need anything very long. I have no contact with the primary cover but YMMV.
I have not used these yet as I only received them last week. They look like they might be forged??? If so, I would hope they are stronger than the zink grade 5 stuff from Home Depot.

Hopefully they will be stronger than H Depot. Just keep a check on them at stops.
I'll suggest the stock position for a couple reasons: 1.) the plate looks very, very heavy, stark, and utilitarian. If you make it look like some custom replacement, you get kudos. 2.) Less work to go stock, and 3.) think about all that diamond plate withOUT the lights. Sort of a treadplate to get into your 4-wheeler Jeep.
