I rode in all climates, standard some years ago in Western Europe, summer and winter (with a restriction for snowfall, ice and salt on the roads). Long vacations in Spain and Greece (up to 100F). Moved to one of the hottest climate in the world (Saudi Arabia) and still I don't want to miss my wind deflectors.
In cold they protect against the cold flow of air underneath the windscreen, in summer they protect me of the buffeting wind underneath. In hot weather it saves my beard from blow-torched away by the heat and wind underneath. Not to mention the buffeting of wind of >115F around your helmet..Yes, we wear leather and a helmet in this heat. A suntanned skin has to be protected from disappearing on the asphalt and brains are there to be protected. If you have no brains, there is no need to protect them, well?
I just got back from Americade. The difference these wind deflectors made at higher speeds including highway, was incredible. Highway riding was actually enjoyable this time instead of a battle to see straight.
But does anyone's vibrate? I think it's actually a resonating frequency thing, but it's only on one side. When I am between gears but can't upshift, one of them vibrates and it gets loud. I'm sure if I check the bolts now and then it's nothing to worry about, but it does sound quite weird.
Studiopeg, first, I think your paint scheme is awesome. Second, who makes this wind deflectors/windshield lowers? Are they HD parts? I have always used Memphis clear plastic ones. I like the shape and looks of these chrome ones though. I would like to put them on my new Heritage.

Did you torque the bolts? I've had mine of for several years now and no vibration or noise from them.

me either. 09 RK. Do you have sufficient clearance behind the aux lights? Mine was close but I was careful to leave some room so that they wouldn't make contact should they shake at all.
In the old days we called 'em "Beard Savers". They kept your beard from fluffing up. They were always put on baggers. Never saw 'em on FX's or Soft tails. Times are a changing!
And I thought I was the only one anymore that LIKED riding with the wind in their face.
funbikerchick: thanks They used to be an HD part but HD stopped making them. You can get the exact same part at jpcycles.com, searching for "wind deflectors." That's where I got them.
Others: we had a tough time getting these on because the top windshield grommets are so short they left little room for the bolt to catch after installing these. I am having custom grommets made that are longer. Maybe that will help. The wind deflectors don't touch anything, except for when the bike is parked and the wheel turned. Then one leans on my helmet lock, but not badly.
My 2000 gets blown all over the road in windy conditions. Is that a function of the solid wheels or the windshield, or both. DO any vendors make a sleeker windshield than just the flat detachable one?
Thanks
Paul
