Well, Bikerlaw, I hadn't heard that before but I will do some look see cause that would be a much easier approach to shortening the rear fender than what others have had to do.

They were some resourceful builders back then. Didn't have all the pre fabbed stuff in catalogs we got now. Recycling fenders was state of the art...lol. Hell, just look at the all the bobtail fenders on bikes today. Long before they were on Wide Glides or Softails, they were shortened up hinged rear fenders that got rotated 60 degree's upwards. The MOCO didn't come up with ANY of this stuff on their own, they stole it from customizers.

Got my head heading in some different directions now. Opens up a whole lot of un-explored options. Thanks.

I don't like it much, but its been popular for ages.

Usually it's about money. That's why they stop making the FXRs. To much money to produce. IMO the FXRs were one of the best bikes HD ever built. In the last couple years they have stopped production of a few models like the FLHT SDT. That was one of the best bikes for the price to get into a Batwing Touring bike. Sorry for the rambling.

Never really had an opinion on the rear fender, but that front end is FAR AND AWAY the best looking somewhat standard setup Harley has ever built!

Was never a big fan of the rear fender either, but I still thought it was a classy looking bike. Liked it much better than the Rocker.
