I was kind of in the same boat as I want to install some narrow apes but have been waiting because I didn't want to hassle with the clutch. Now trying to figure out if my local HD dealership is wrong when they say I can't use heated grips with internally wired apes.

What kind of bars are you going with?

Man I bought custom bars from CCCs through the Doc.
Extremely nice, but also extremely expensive... No regrets for sure though....

here is the link to the thread that I posted some pictures of the install... Still not done since I havent had time to finish it yet. But since the jockey kit hasnt arrived I am in no hurry. Going to try to finish everything up this weekend. (Still waiting on some feedback from the forum!)

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-question.html

I am extremely please with the quality of the product.

Well, I was sitting in a hotel room when I last posted, going through my mind why the shifter felt a little stiff. Got home yesterday and looked everything over. Clutch adjustment, cable adjustment, pedal position, trans fluid (added a tiny bit), Then went for a ride. Then it hit me. My arm isn't as strong as my leg. If it was, I would have a much easier time walking on my hands. The "clunk" has been there since new. I just didn't feel it as much in my leg. The Twin Cam 5 speed doesn't feel the same as my ratchet lid 4 speed but then, I guess it shouldn't.

I continued riding and relaxed a bit. I noticed when I blipped the throttle between shifts, the shifter felt like butter.

One more observation: I lowered the pedal, like you said, so it engages just a little sooner. Much easier to start from a stop (!) but , additionally, the way I adjusted it, the pedal just barely rests on top of my foot (after I relax), completely eliminating any possibility of pressure on the throw out bearing. I've burned through enough of those.

I have to leave town again today but really looking forward to my next chance to ride.

Again, Drew, Thanks for your input.

Lance

Glad you figured it out. I guess mine is different as it is a tank shifter as opposed to the jockey lever.

You mentioned just using a mirror bracket in place of the clutch perch. As I look at mine, I think I get it. It looks to me like I would be able to retain the switches on the left side. right? If so, do you sell a black one? I wanted to go with black bars.

The mirror clamp replaces the clutch perch and clamp for the mirror. It only comes in chrome but you can get it power coated. I'll try to get some pics for you today so you can see what it looks like.

so guys, ..now that the ugly lever is off the left.....why can't we make up a 65/35 prop valve for the brakes and make both pedal operated so we can lose the right lever too?

internal wires and throttle with no levers.....i wanna see that.

i think this jokey mod is in my future.....it seems very unique.

I have heard of guys using just the one foot pedal for both front and rear brake but i suppose if one fails so does the other, but for me im going jockey, open primary and no front brake. I figure im not getting out alive anyway right.....
