Since you are going for it, here is what you should look for:
1. Under the front (clutch side) of the tank, lift the rubber seal and look for a small connector hanging out in there. It has 2 wires, one is red and I believe it has a yellow tracer, the other is black. It is a switched power outlet that is meant to connect a fender tip lamp.
2. Pick up a harness from HD called "Independent Control Auxiliary Lamp Wire Harness Kit" Part #69200442. It is not really a kit, just a harness. It will give you a switched power source that is not controlled by the high beam and turns off when ignition is turned off and you won't accidentally kill your battery.
By using this to power your aux lights, you can have you aux lights on and your high beam at the same time. No cutting and soldering wires, Plug and Play!
The extra plug worked great to plug my GPS into. Had to get a connector and pins from HD to make that happen.
alrighty. how much was the harness. did you get it from harley or somewhere else. i want to do this right for sure. i still gotta find some aux lights.

On the US HD site, $29.95
Do a search for the part # - 69200442
I refuse to cut wires. Something to screw up in the middle of nowhere!
Besides, the harness has an inline fuse. Extra protection!
