Hi guys..
First off there were some amount of depris on the drain plug on my primary Chain .. (see photo).. is that Normal ? or excessive ? last time I changed Oil was 10K miles.
Also, it took almost 1.4 Quarts to fill up to the lower end of the spring of the clutch as per instructions but it should have filled up with just half that ? does this mean it was running almost dry ? .. mm...
Finally the worst part is .. .. when I was putting the inspection derby cover back on, I found that the previous Mechanic installation had already over tightened one of the screwes and I am going to run with only 4 screwes until I get a new one tomorrow (hope that I won't have to get a complete new cover ..
primary oil usually looks ugly..chain and sprokets really take a beating ..that said how many miles on the bike since last service if they are up there then would worry change to redline synthetic in the primary and trans ..
Three bolts would probably hold the cover so with four you should be fine. 1.4 is a lot of oil for the primary. It should be 1.0. Was the bike on the stand when you filled it? If not you may have too much in it. Keep any eye on how the clutch feels, if it's odd or different you may need to drain some. Some debris on the plug is normal at 10,000.
1.4 sounds like a lot. Was it leaning on the stand or upright? fwiw - I just put in the 26 oz and forget about it. 4 bolts should be good. If not, oil on the cover will tell you otherwise.

Bike was up right on stand, I took it for a good spin actually, no leaks, no problems, everything is fine so far.. let us hope the good ol lady holds up
An overfilled primary can cause clutch slippage, so if this happens, you know why. I add what the manual says every time and have never had an issue. I don't bother checking where it is on the spring. My 02 softail on takes 26 oz's but the newer ones take 1 qt.
Lots of people have a tough time seeing when the oil just touches the clutch. Should just use a quart and be good to go. As far as the fuzz, hard seeing the pic but primary's are filthy places. Your call there. Probably change like 5000 and see what is on then.
