Default Any Ideas? 2001 Deuce

I have a 2001 Deuce with EFI. The problem I'm having is it is backfiring on deacceleration and I have to give it some throttle to get it started. When it is running I let the throttle down slow and you can hear it decide to idle. It dies at stop lights if I don't keep it running. Or sometimes it idles fine. It has a stage one SE air filter and Vance and hines exhaust, do not know if anything has been done to compensate for them, not sure if this is my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated .

Clean the IAC valve first. Just spray some throttle body cleaner in the hole in the IAC valve. Your bike has the MM EFI which has been known to be finicky or slightly problematic sometimes which is why Harley switched to Delphi EFI in 2002. You could get a Thundermax with auto tune ECM and that should fix it.

If you just bought it I would run a bag a gas thru, or drain gas and start with good gas, 91 or better octane. Take seat off and see if a fuel management system was added; if not. Take it to your dealer and have then re-map ecm for stage one and pipes. If those pipes don't have a baffle you will probably get some backfire on decel. Have you pulled plugs to see if bike ie running lean or rich?? Bike should not die at stops. How long have you had the bike? is this new or has it alsways been like this?

I have had the bike about a year now. I always run 91 octane in it. The issue seems to be getting worse as time goes by and it is time to resolve the problem. It has not had a fuel management system installed on it to my knowlede, but there is a empty plug under there. Could it be for them to hook up to test with? I haven't pulled the plugs yet, but I will tomorrow. I will also spray the IAC valve and see if the combination of your answers will fix it. Thanks alot for your help.

Replaced the IAC valve today. Fired right up, let it run for awhile to warm up. Shut it off and once again had to give it some gas to get it started. When I rev it up it comes down to below idle and either dies or struggles and comes back to regular idle rpm.

Default Still having problems.

I had a Twin Tuner fuel injection controller installed the other day. Bike seems a lot more crisp on the throttle but, it still doesnt want to idle when it is cold. It gets better when it warms up, and i still have to give it some gas when I'm starting it. It isn't throwing any codes either. The mechanic I took it to was baffled. He said he had never ran into this problem before. I am at a loss. Any ideas?

things that cause this condition are vacuum leak like a bad gasket or crappy vacuum line, if you have exhaust sensors or a throttle position sensor, one of them is faulty, dirty or not communicating with the computer. An engine valve hung open just a little can also cause this. Tested via compression test.
Check the butterfly on your air intake for coking. If their is a build up of crud there, that will effect your idle. Verify that your cam shaft is not 1 tooth out!
